Ironic perhaps but not humorous. " If it bleeds it leads" is the rule but one would think they could cover more then one crisis at a time. They could at least get some new B-roll footage, I've seen the same machine gun litter the road with spent brass at least 300 times.
...and you will see it at least 300 more times. ISIS (or ISIL) is beheading journalists, which actually becomes an understandable if subtle strategy when you observe (as you did) that media reporting on their activities is way, way down.
Some journalists will sicken and die in the hot zone. Then they will move on to the next story.
Who knows, eventually they may work their way down to reporting on the exhaustion of readily accessible oil and gas supplies. Then somebody will note that we are as far up the creek as is possible to float, and it is time to get out of the boat and wade in the smelly stuff.
