Hello from NEPA: Coal Country

Unread postby Puchica » Wed 02 Feb 2011, 08:56:00

Living with an active coal mine not a hundred feet from my door and all the while struggling to get this ancient coal cookstove to cook in the middle of the ice storm. Hello

Welcome to both of y'all.

I drove up through Centrallia the other day. I'm in Philadelphia but have a hunting cabin in Bradford Co.

Welcome aboard.

I did leave several bread crumb trails. Have to wait and see how many take the bait. LOL

Hello and Welcome Aboard!

I changed your thread title, you are not refugees, those come from war torn places or outright natural disaster zones. You are an honored and welcome immigrant, like the Statue of Liberty says, give us your tired, your poor, your struggling masses yearning to breathe free...

Peakoil.com welcomes all immigrants from everywhere and we struggle to promote free speech in all our forums. Welcome, pull up a cozy seat and join in.

Tanada - Excellent point. But you know it’s only a matter of time before some smart*ss suggests we need some documentation from our new immigrants. Woops…already happening. LOL

I very much look forward to the immigrants. I was at TOD for a very long time. There are folks over there that are outstanding in numerical analysis. One might not agree with their interpretations but there’s hard data to work with and not just “opinions”. And lots of great charters too…unlike me and you.

Got this message from a TODster: Regarding the signup procedures for Peakoil.com, I think that a lot of people are missing the email confirmation messages, because they are not checking their spam filters.

Former TOD lurker. Followed the bread crumbs, hoping to find ice cream. This time I hope to be active!

Mike - I do have a few BBIC vouchers left but you know it's going to take some great posts on your part to even have a shot. But give it a try.

Long time TOD fan and total lurker; signed up here awhile back but still find TOD to be easier to navigate. In the many years browsing TOD and the Drumbeats and Campfires I went from absolute innocent naiveté to a much broader, deeper understanding of what happened between the 1970s and the present in terms of energy issues and the economy, and now climate change. I'm a frequent reader of Orlov, the Archdruid, Resilience.org, Our Finite World, TAE, and other sites that are probably very familiar to most of you. But I always went back to and spent most of my online time on TOD. I will miss TOD and the intelligent debunking of the constant, all-pervasive MSM cheerleading about the state of the world.

Hello from UK

Unread postby Gordianus » Mon 28 Oct 2013, 13:36:07

Just thought I would introduce myself. I am based in the South of England. My background is in Engineering and I have always had an interest in energy, economics and climate science.

I have been reading this site for some time, as well as The Oildrum before it closed down. I am always impressed by knowledge of many of the regular contributors and often learn something new. I hope to contribute to some of the discussions in a small way.

Regards,

Welcome Gordianus

England is facing some interesting energy issues. Please share your views on these subjects.

PS: Are you by any chance related to Saint Gordianus or the Roman Emperor Gordianus or perhaps to the Roman dectective Gordianus?

Thanks Plantagenet. I shall certainly contribute when I can.

We had a nasty storm in the early hours of yesterday morning, which crossed the south of England, then went on to Belgium and the Netherlands. It was accurately forecast a few days ahead of time, so everyone was prepared, and of course the media (being largely based in London) went into a bit of a frenzy.

It was roughly a once-in-five year event and caused quite a bit of disruption to air and rail travel, as well as power cuts in some areas. There were also four fatalities caused mainly by falling trees. There was concern that it would be as severe as the Great Storm of 1987, but in reality it was much less severe. I expect everthing will be back to normal by this afternoon.
