A - Sorry...that's not acceptable. I'm in the process of forming a small posse to hunt down folks who don't post much. I don't need to hear much more from insiders...I live with those freakin' people all day long. What I truly appreciate hearing is what folks outside this happy band of chipmunks are thinking. I don’t tend to see the MSM as much of a barometer.

But welcome anyway.

Thanks, Rockman. My issue is having the time to write posts--seems like that consumes much time/energy that I should be spending on other things currently. But there are quiet periods among the workload...

A - Understood and appreciated. I suppose not everyone has a computer monitor in their face 16 hours a day like me. Being a semi-cripple does have it's advantages. LOL

Geostrohic wind is the main force in the atmosphere and, in theory would be constant except for relatively minor forces like ageostrophic winds that can have a very large disproportionate effect on the atmosphere. Clever if I follow the connection to the components of the POD

pstarr - Not that I'm not truly brilliant but for the last 30 hours I've been sitting in a trailer on a drill site watching my horizontal EOR well begin drilling. About like watching paint dry. So with an Internet connection and way too much dead time on my hands it's not difficult to appear to become an expert almost instantly. LOL

Ageostrophic winds are a very complex concept. What I tossed out was all I could absorb before my head started hurting.

Welcome Bruce. Why don't you give us a quick idea of how you view the energy situation. It would be nice to see some fresh thoughts. We tend to get a little inbred here and occasionally lose sight that the vast majority of folks ain't us.

Howdy from Texas Mark. Given your location it would be helpful for you to keep us informed about the growing energy trade relations between China and Russia. Lately I've been focused on such Chinese efforts around the world. In particular the developments in Siberia where it's a very short distance to Chinese refineries and the potential to ship large volumes of natural gas from Russia to China. Given recent history this could be a very bad development for the EU as others rather dependent upon Russian gas.

I'm no expert, but I found that Роснефть and CNPC just agreed to double oil export to China to 30 mln tons a year during the next few years and signed a contract for the next 25 years.

Interesting the move towards using the metric 'Tons' seems to be the new speak in Russian oil biz. Looks like the good old petrodollar isn't getting a look in at these barrels tons.

SG - Actually a lot of foreign oil gets reported by tonnage. A simple generic conversion is about 7 bbl per ton if I recall correctly.

Just a regular guy

Unread postby charmcitysking » Thu 12 Sep 2013, 20:32:34

Hello all, just wanted to say hello...

I'm student who has recently stumbled upon the topic of Peak Oil and this site in recent months. Maybe I'm on some sort of weird pink cloud or something, but I am absolutely fascinated with the subject and it has in a way, taken precedence over a number of areas of interest that I hold dear. Irish history doesn't seem so important anymore (forgive me Daniel O'Connell!) in the face of resource wars, economic collapse, and social disintegration.

I must admit that the plethora of information available on this site and other sources on the web can be a bit overwhelming to a novice student of energy depletion such as myself. But I'm immensely grateful to have this wealth of knowledge available to me virtually free of charge; I'm lucky to have the chance to access it. A big thank you to all who contribute to this awesome site.

As noted I am pretty green, but I sincerely look forward to learning as much as I can on this topic and hopefully having something valuable to contribute in the future.

Yes charm, very welcome- nice first post :)

Us rusted on old geezers manage to string a few thoughts together over time. This site is pretty special for it's content and the ability we have developed (with occasional help from our esteemed moderators 8) ) to conflict without descending into ad-hom most of the time

Looking forwards to your thoughts & contributions!

charm - If I were in your age bracket and understood what I know about the global energy situation I'm not sure I wouldn't feel a bit panicked. Not that you should but at 62 yo I don't have to worry about my situation in another 20 years or so. But I do have a 13 yo daughter and her future (as well as yours) is a concern. Neither you nor she can change the future but both of you can try to educate yourselves in a manner which might allow you to better cope with whatever eventually develops.

Lots of sources out there on the net that an offer you some ideas. Of course you'll find a wide range of visions from a Mad Max world to "don't worry...they'll find a solution". You'll just have to pick and choose what makes sense to you. But one suggestion: stocking up on Guinness is never a bad plan. LOL.
