Crock of the day

Unread postby Repent » Sun 16 Sep 2012, 10:26:28

I'm not a scientist, and I don't pretend to be one. However I read the alternative media daily and I believe I have a layman's understanding that catastrophic climate change is real, peak oil is real, catabolic collapse of society is real, ect, ect.

There's no sense in debating all of the deniers; but we can at least laugh at them! So I challenge all the other regular members and lurkers here at peakoil.com to post at least one 'Crock of the day' link daily, if for no other purpose than the entertainment value that these idiots have to offer us.

So I start this off with the first 'Crock of the day', from the website
http://www.ilovemycarbondioxide.com/

Despite a continuous increase in the total amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere - driven almost exclusively by the oceans that cover some 70% of our planet - our precious planet has now been cooling for over a decade and is more than likely to continue on that trend.

Such an ongoing downward trend is caused by solar and orbital variations and has nothing to do with either the total amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere or the less than 4% of the total emissions of carbon dioxide coming from human developments
...
The real tragedy is that the global warming community have showed no signs of changing their ways and entering into multidisciplinary discussions in a field where they have neither knowledge nor experience. Do they not realise that they have antagonised those of us in the engineering and applied sciences to the extent that we no longer trust their motives based on their attempts to silence all those who have contrarian views, and their deliberate departures from the truth?

Come on people- people and articles like these are dooming our species to misery, poverty, and eventual extinction- let's at least have a laugh at them.

Hi Repend, great crock of the day!

Global warming lies spread by oil companies and Koch brothers. I put those keywords into your link in to help Google associate the right SEO keywords for that BS. We don't want to be helping the Koch brothers disinformation efforts.

a continuous increase in the total amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere - driven almost exclusively by the oceans
Wow, yeah that's ridiculous. The scientific fact is the oceans have been absorbing carbon dioxide, not releasing it. The extra acidity is harming shellfish and coral in the oceans in a process called ocean acidification or in simple terms turning the oceans into sodawater. It's no wonder the Koch(pronounced Coke) brothers like that.

Right now the oceans are carbon sinks, until such point they reach maximum absorption of CO2, then they will become net emitters. Which will just be one more devastating positive feedback.

If that video edited by the illustrious, Peter Sinclair, were to be analogous to the human body, the victim would have long ago bled to death.

8) You might want to narrow up your definition of what constitutes a "crock". Otherwise any politician's stump speech of the day might make the cut. To make the cut the crock of the day must be absurd to the point that even the people presenting it can't really believe it if they are sentient beings.

Vt, I agree that the name has come to be inappropriate for many of their (otherwise generally excellent) videos. But they started the series with that name, and that's what stuck.

Lore, yeah, I'm sometimes tempted to use the term 'death by a thousand cuts' to describe the multiple insults we are inflicting on the living planet and on the future. But to me that always implied that each cut was fairly minor and they are only lethal in the aggregate.

But this is more like "death by a million deep, gaping, gushing gashes."
