Peak oil humor

Unread postby dohboi » Wed 01 Aug 2012, 11:15:28

I didn't see a thread on this, so I thought I'd start one with this New Yorker cartoon:

Usual pithy New Yorker cartoon quality and humor. No reason not to link to it;

Stuff is relatively easy to find . . .

but not nearly as humorous as dumping on cornies.

How many Cornies does it take to replace a light bulb?

None, light bulbs never burn out.

None, they'll think of something.

None, they've been predicting the end of light bulbs for a hundred years.

None, burned out light bulbs are a myth.

None, the Magic Hand will do it.

None, demand for light is falling.

None, we can make more money if everyone's in the dark.

None, there is a new technology and for enough money...

How many doomers does it take to replace a light bulb?
One, to open the curtains.

OMG! That is laugh-out loud funny.

How many Cornies does it take to replace a light bulb?

Thousands. But they work for free and don't need to be fed or housed.

None. Light bulbs are self-replicating, formed from the gooey nougat that leaks up from between the floor boards.

Only two, but those two can replace all the world's light bulbs simultaneously. From one ladder. Using very long horizontal light-bulb grippers and high-pressure hoses.

You've asked the wrong question. The Stone Age didn't end for lack of stones. Light bulbs will be replaced when something better comes along.

You've asked the wrong question. The light bulb doesn't really matter because there is this Report, printed on fancy expensive Harvard University Stationary, and it's from this Really Important Guy. The Guy told me not to worry, it's night time. And it's really really dark in here. 8O And besides, I don't have the technical degree to understand it, so I am going back to bed.

You asked the wrong question. You don't need to know how many guys it takes or if it cost money. That is the easy stuff, the given. No. What we need to know is this: Where we are going to get the light bulbs? Some would say the hardware store or Target, or Home Depot. But it is dark and we can't find the keys, so I would suggest going out the front door to the neighbor's house, the one with the Star of David on the porch. Yikes! They've ran out of gasoline, and can't even get the car down the Straits of Hormuz. . . Oh. I mean down the driveway. Let's try the other neighbors on the left. The ones with the cock-fight in the garage.

They seem to believe that if they say "Bakken, Brazil, offshore, tar sands, technology" enough times in a row, it will make $100-a-barrel oil go away.

It depends whether you connect them in series or parallel.

Today's Dilbert is particularly insightful.
