A rise in oil prices into the $100+ always seems to end with a crash in the economy as measured by the stock market. So, stocks rise, the price of oil rises, then they fall together. At least that is the pattern for 2008 and now.

Stocks Open Higher; S&P 500 Hits Four-Year High
http://news.investors.com/article/62292 ... -boost.htm

DSW (DSW) rose 3% to an all-time high after beating views. Before the open, the shoe retailer delivered Q2 earnings of 66 cents a share. That's down from 74 cents in the year-ago period, but it beat expectations by 4 cents. Sales rose nearly 8% to $512.2 million vs. views of $510.9 million. DSW is now nearly 5% past a 60.75 buy point in a cup-with-handle base cleared Thursday.

You also have to look at the technicals, the rise is based on only half the market with lite volume in which traders and corporate buy backs are participating. The depth is shallow with few individuals jumping in. Most of them are still skinned from the last go round and are left with empty pockets. Let's also not forget that the boomers are in the process of drawing down on their 401Ks while the younger generation is struggling just to make ends meet. There isn't really all that much joy on the trading floors on this. Looks to be great for the MSM news though.

I'll still stick to my prediction that the equity markets will begin to roll over in the next couple of months.

We're at that same state of market exuberance as we were back in 1999 or 2007. Just gauging from history then I'd expect the correction to be more severe. Except this time the run-up is even more hollow with no average consumer participation a GDP flat lining, new taxation burdens, growing debt and Wall Street traders counting on the renaissance of old fossil fuel and the Feds to keep the ride going.

I can't figure out what's happening, but it just hit me. The US dollar is rising and so is the stock market because they seem like a safer place to put money than the European economy. Am I right?

Yup. Thats part of it.

The Euro is down and stock markets in parts of the EU are down. Also, some of the money that the EU kleptocrats tried to steal in Cyprus, and other EU money that the EU kleptocrats might try to steal in the future is now being moved from the EU to the US.

My prediction is that the downwelling from the pop of this Fed driven bubble will reverberate for decades. Rippling through crisis after crises to come.

15,118.49 today on the NYSE, the next time the bubble pops it is going to be brutal.
