I actually consider myself fairly well informed on peak oil, so though I'm certainly not "the best guy" in the world on the subject, I actually spoke quite eloquently and in a lot of detail about peak oil. Of course they cut most of it out for time, and so they could show our truck driving around a lot (which admittedly makes for good TV).
I too was bothered by the analysis, of course peak oil is much sooner than decades away, but that seems to be the trend on the show. Show people preparing for something, and then play down the likelihood of that thing happening.
That being said, overall I'm pleased with how they presented my family. And the whole reason we chose to go on the show and sacrifice some of our "opsec" was because we felt it was a great opportunity to get the word about peak oil to a national/international audience.
