Peak Oil Apocalypse is a bunch of phooey!

Unread postby wahoodoggydoo » Thu 14 Jun 2007, 13:20:17

You doom-and-gloomers need to get a life! Yes, peak oil will happen; there is no doubt about it. But peak oil will NOT cause a cataclysmic crash of global society. People act like the lights will go out when the oil wells dry up. Give me a break!

We are on the cusp of a revolutionary advance, not decline. Economics will force the wasteful to conserve, albeit the wasteful will go kicking and screaming. Our powerful talents for technology and innovation will result in a renewable energy revolution and remarkable increases in energy efficiency.

The Oil Age has pushed global population beyond what can be supported without oil UNDER OUR CURRENT SYSTEM. Humans aren't going to starve by the billions when the oil runs out. Humans will change the system. Humans will adapt to change, that's what we do!

When the Oil Age ends, we don't end. And we don't go back to horse-and-buggy either. We advance into the Solar Age. Look at the innovations that have been developed in the last century. Yes, our CO2 emissions grow exponentially, but our technology grows exponentially as well. We can overcome.

And I don't want to hear about how solar can replace only a fraction of our energy use. That's true in our current system, but not for the future. Besides, most of our energy consumption today is just waste anyway.

Someday human population will exceed what the Earth can support, but it will NOT happen because of peak oil. We are nearing a societal transition, not an end to society.

You doom-and-gloomers do play a useful role however. Somebody needs to give society a good wake-up call. A good dose of fear mongering just might get the job done...

Care to back this up, or are we to run the future society off your endless hot air?

I'm curious, if this is your second post, what's your first?

And I don't want to hear about how solar can replace only a fraction of our energy use

Just because you don't want something doesn't mean it's not going to happen. I don't want to have to pay 315 a gallon for gas. Guess what, I still have to. And it's only going to get worse.

We are nearing a societal transition, not an end to society

A change in society so that the old one no longer resembles the new one in almost all major ways IS the end of society. And the only kind of society that would survive after peak oil is indeed this kind.

And yet another one shows up on the short bus.

Society already hit the snooze button. Why does society need to wake up anyway ? That is so CURRENT SYSTEM thinking. Under the NEW SYSTEM, we can just keep sleeping, right ? Otherwise, what's the point?

The worlds institutions are in a state of disintegration. National Problems can no longer be solved at the National level. (Look at the Price for gasoline no one can control it not even the oil majors).

The world should be regarded as one body. When one part of the body is diseased the the whole body suffers. The world should be regarded as one body, ie: The middle east is in chaos so that mean that everyone everywhere in the world is going to suffer. This is just the beginning.

Sounds great. Do you play a role in this too?

When the Oil Age ends, we don't end....

While I think you are just one of the old timers getting bored, rather than hurl insults, I'll just recommend you read "Collapse" by Jared Diamond.

He gives examples of how we have adapted in the past.

yes we are about to enter the solor age.that would be billions of bones bleaching in the sun. most likely because they were waiting for the solar powered and other unrealistick energy plans to save them.

You're right, wahoodoggydoo. There's plenty of oil. Centuries, perhaps millinea of it. We will never run out.

That means the economy is golden (at least!). So go forth, shop with confidence, and treat yourself! Take a look at a new car - some of the new financing options make a new car a great bargain. May I suggest a large, comfortable SUV? You'll be safe, secure - and now is the time to make some good deals.

Truth is, we're all just enjoying a bit of whimsy. None of us believe any of this. So spend, enjoy, and live life to the fullest!
