Sorry I didn't see this until now, I rarely visit this section.

Since I stopped my catalog a couple years ago now, I don't really have anything to say. Wouldn't be surprised if discoveries fell off, with the price of oil crashing lately.

Yeah, I think I wrote 4 or 5 posts on the previous page regarding the decline in discoveries over the previous 4 years (while oil was at the highest price ever) was not just down, but in '13 the lowest ever, that according to the head corn - IHS:
First of all, since 2008, every year since then, we've seen a declining number of fields that have been found. In addition, since 2010, we've also seen declining volumes that have been found. 2013, it turns out, was among the lowest volumes found on record since the early days of oil and gas exploration. We found about 13 billion barrels of oil equivalent that year. In addition, 2013 was the first year since the very earliest days of oil and gas exploration that we didn't find at least one billion barrel oil field.

"We found about 13 billion barrels of oil equivalent that year". That's OK Pops. But how much oil did we find...not equivalent bbls of oil. Didn't we make fun of a public company a few years ago that stated the reserves of their new field discovery as X bbls of oil equivalent? And the reason we mocked them was because the field actually contained no liquid hydrocarbon...it was 100% dry NG.

LOL, True ROCK.
But we're talking press releases here (OF stock in trade) so at least it wasn't 13 billion of 100% dry oil.

FWIW, the last 4 years of my catalog showed no real drop-off or trend. Obviously myself and IHS have/had different methodologies, but without knowing exactly what theirs is, I can't really comment on it.
