The solution to big problems doesn't start in small countries. To solve big problems, you have to solve the problems for American sized crack hoe consumption issues. We solve the problem, and then, in another century or two when oil really does spin down as a liquid fuel, other little countries can finally buy established solutions from the big boys.
Be the first and buy one. Or STFU?

Good thing the US has not only the nuke technology to make hydrogen, or plenty of natural gas to make it from, but plenty of pipelines to move it around, plenty of concentrations of people in these things called "cities" so that supply isn't a problem, and actual machines which run on these alternative fuels already being sold, prototyped, driven and used every day on the streets of America.

I say the time has come for us Doomers to match proudly into the future we helped create by our hysterical scare mongering to the public...WE DID IT!! We convinced enough people to worry about liquid fuels to mass produce other types of completely reasonable transportation, powered by things we have plenty of!

A round of back slapping for everyone! And Happy New Year

Shorty you have responded to honest concern with a list of platitudes ("match [sic]proudly into the future"), smug canned quips ("A round of back slapping for everyone!"), childish simplifications ("Good thing the US has not only the nuke technology to make hydrogen, or plenty of natural gas to make it from"), idiot conflations (confusing NG and H2 pipelines) all in place of honest debate.

So to you, I raise my glass and say: "Go f#ck your new year, troll"

I love prognostications which only require a single picture to refute.

Saving the world from peak oil, one hydrogen car at a time! Go Honda!

The only thing that will save the world is Peakoil, along with peaksoil, peakphosphorus, etc. Delay of death will only expand the magnitude of everybodies suffering.
Keeping 7 billion humanoids around me is not worth cutting an acre of virgin forest per second and exterminating 10-20 species a day.

One might respond that gentle people living in harmony with natural systems under the warm embrace of a large-bosomed and giving generous Gaia might find solace in each other rather than the acquisition and display of gadgets etc. but then that would only be labeled Solipsism or something smart-assed. Or you might argue that people are inherently evil or domineering and soul/earth destroying, in which case I would have to argue that altruism is a genetically-coded characteristic of all mammals/primates a consequence of group selection generalizing parental protection to the tribe, pack etc.

ad hom deleted Making the bust that was peak oil into "peak everything" is just doubling down on a failed idea.

Maybe, but the American Indians were too busy killing each other over land and water and resources to fall for this "holier than thou" routine advocated by those who can only do so from the warm embrace of their fossil fueled lifestyle. Fortunately, the same people who created that one, are already busy cranking out the next. Go humans!

Oh yes, of course, not the Hopi. They were the one true peaceful Indian types, that's why the word Anasazi means "ancient enemies", its what you call all the peaceful Indians in the neighborhood.

Haven't you ever been to the Cliff Palace? You think they pulled up the ladders to deny access to others only when their buddies were in the vicinity?

Pstar, are you 9? What would be the point of buying a hydrogen powered vehicle if there is no place within the range of the vehicle that sells the fuel? How would it help the environment to buy a $50,000 paper weight and still be forced to use gasoline powered vehicles?

Are you talking to me? I was dumping all over the H2 scam, not embracing it like a large-bosomed Gaia

... and yet another ad hom deleted But which one would you like? EV's and CNG vehicles you can have immediately, the Honda Clarity is in the prototype phase.

Here is why this matters...the EV1 prototyped the Volt. Hybrids prototyped the upcoming PHEV Prius, and led to the market creating its own version, like this one:

http://www.a123systems.com/hymotion

Honda of course has been pumping out Civic GX's for years now, there are 4 available in my local auto search. With such plentiful and available natural gas since (in a booming voice sounding like Charlton Heston from the clouds)

"THE 2005 NATURAL GAS CLIFF IN AMERICA!!!!"

happened its a solid bet for the foreseeable future. I prefer the HyMotion myself.

EV's and CNG vehicles
So in your Zoloft-clouded world H2, EV, and NG vehicles are all the same?

Humans obviously cant be inherently evil since it was them who made up this construct in the first place. As for altruism, there is nothing that people do without benefiting themselves or their genes in one way or another. Nothing. Look at the Cidyama for example who gave a few hundreds to some unemployed dude of his choosing and shines with his holiness ever since.

But that is the point I make. We are compelled to help fellow humans because we must, It is in our genes. This is not a conscious choice, a matter of "enlightened self interest," "community," or some bleeding heart/traditional-family-values-thing. It is what makes us social mammals

even If so, these genes were developing way before your hipothetical "herd" grew to 7 000 000 000.
Monkey spheres are there for a good reason.

Human haters? Is there any other kind of haters?
Anyway, if I prefer 6 billion to die now and you prefer 12 to die after you are dead who is a bigger hater among us two?
