Treaties generally operate in the same way as they did in the past as military powers essentially pull the strings.

Simple, right now Syria does not recognize Isreal as having the right to exist in its current location. An actual peace treaty with an agreed upon border would fundamentally change that on the nternational scale. Even if Assads successor next week or 50 years from now decided to revoke the treaty, it's existence now would change the dynamics of international politics.
Why would Assad do this? He knows Israel and the West will stab him in the back at the first opportunity, like Gaddafi and Saddam after they gave up their WMDs.

First, to say the least Vladimir Putin has a lot of influence on Assad at the moment and he has been having some very congenial meetings with Israel especially in the last few months.

Secondly Israel signed the Camp David Accords with Egypt in early 1979 at which time Egypt became the first Muslim majority nation to recognize Israel has a right to exist where it is presently located. Since that time there has been peace between the two country that replaced a whole series of wars from 1947-1973. There is no reason for Syria to expect that if they made peace with Israel the same kind of long duration peace would not be achieved.

Thirdly Israel and Jordan signed a similar peace treaty in 1994 establishing the border between the two countries and ceding the West Bank to Israel. Despite what most people believe the West Bank was internationally recognized as Jordanian territory, not Palestinian, so this treaty makes the West Bank part of Israel, with the understanding that some accommodation for Palestinians living there will be made. In effect Jordan washed its hands of the Palestinians then under Yasser Arafat, who was unwilling to accept any reasonable peace efforts.

Fourth, the only large bordering Arab Muslim majority state that remains unwilling to set agreed upon boundaries with Israel and grant international recognition of a boundary line is Syria. Lebanon was a mixed population country for most of its existence and was not a major trouble maker for Israel except for permitting groups like the Palestinians and Hezbollah to place rocket launchers in their territory that were fired into Israel. If Syria and Israel come to a border agreement designed like the ones signed with Egypt and Jordan then it will make peace a much more secure and long term viable prospect than has existed in the region for the last 70 years.

"presently located"
Israel has grabbed a lot of real estate since then, concentrating the remaining Palestinians into tiny camps. I read the Israeli media, they do not talk about their final solution for the Palestinians.

The Egyptian people got a corrupt USraeli backed dictatorship out of the deal. I think that is the plan for Syria.

You live in your own reality-distortion field.

BTW, why don't you read up on some Palestinian literature before you accuse Jews of being genocidal. I think you'll find that the Palestinians are far worse in their hopes and wishes to mercilessly kill all Jews.

Yah, the Palestinians invaded NYC, Miami and Chicago, massacred and ethnically cleansed the Jews and ripped off their property.

No, they just rip through bystanders in Sbarros and turn their murderers into cult celebrities with posters and produce children's programs in which their costumed characters urge their children to kill every Jew.

Oh, I forgot to bring this up until the present tense, the simple running around and stabbing people for being Jews part. Yeah, the Palestinians, such loving people, so downtrodden and innocent.

Whereas your peace loving settlers from NYC, Miami and Chicago burned Palestinians alive in their homes as part of their terrorist ethnic cleansing campaign, which you condone.

Palestinians should have run the kind of PR the Zionists did with the British in Cyprus, soft terror with lots of scared kids being intimidated. It worked on the UN then. The Palestinians have done themselves no favours by waves of intefada. Clearly they never grokked NVA.

The Palestinian are useful idiots as long as they stay on the anti-Israel plantation. If they actually made peace with Israel, they would be disavowed from the rest of the Muslim community as traitors.

They tried that back in 1948 and were gunned down by the peace loving settlers.

Are Jews running around America killing people? Di Jews slaughter people like sheep in Paris? Did the Jews crash airplanes into the WTC and kill 3000 Americans?

You are such a fool. Hopefully they will kill the Islamic apologists like yourself first when they get power.

What would a Palestinian Cog have done back in 1948 with boatloads of armed "refugees" arriving and the UN voting to give them his real estate for free? If it makes it easier for you, imagine you were a Palestinian Christian, not Muslim.
