The brutal Canada Heat Wave 2017

The heat has prompted Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for the weekend, warning of temperatures over 32 degrees in areas away from the water.

Officials are also warning of risks to young children, seniors, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses and those exerting themselves outdoors.
That last warning played out in real time on Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain Saturday afternoon, where search and rescue crews were tasked with helping a hiker who was overcome by the heat.

Our Planet Is on Fire
Image
Record temperatures bring with them more drought, food insecurity, famine and massive human displacements.

Rome: Record high temperatures are gripping much of the globe and more hot weather are to come. This implies more drought, more food insecurity, more famine and more massive human displacements.

In fact, extremely high May and June temperatures have broken records in parts of Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the United States, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported, adding that the heat-waves have arrived unusually early.

Why has the United States and almost the entire world done so little so far in the face of the clear and present danger of climate change? Reason, science, and humanitarian concerns have little chance when pitted against powerful political and economic interests – at least in the short run. In the long run even the most powerful institutions sometimes have had to yield to evidence. The Catholic Church won the first round with Galileo. We know how that fight ultimately turned out.

Canada summer 2017
http://vancouversun.com/news/local-news ... across-b-c
Heat wave topples temperature records across B.C.

After a soggy spring, summer hit the B.C. south coast with a vengeance on the weekend, breaking at least 10 daily temperature records on Saturday.

Lytton was the hottest spot in the province, its 36.5 C toppling a record set almost a century ago in 1926. Cache Creek came a close second with 35.6 C.

The two-day heat wave also saw records broken Saturday in Victoria, Squamish, and Abbotsford, where the mercury topped 32.2 C.

The Sunshine Coast lived up to its name, with Sechelt, Powell River and Gibsons all posting record-breaking temperatures.

Heat wave Spain Malaga hits 38 C°

MALAGA’S heat wave is set to come to an end this weekend, but not before temperatures soar to up to 38 degrees.

AEMET predicts that Tuesday (June 27) is set to be the hottest day with mainland areas such as Coin and Alora seeing the worst of the heat whilst coastal areas should begin to feel cooler. However Estepona did reach 38 degrees on Monday and has been affected considerably by the heat wave....

South Slovakia should prepare for another heat wave
The temperatures in some areas may be as high as 35 degrees Celsius.

Farmers suffer from droughts
Meanwhile, the farmers in southern and western Slovakia struggle with droughts caused by the extremely hot and dry weather.

“This weather negatively impacts many plants,” Matej Korpáš from the Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK) told the TASR newswire.

In areas close to water resources the farmers intensively use irrigation. There are, however, fields without access to water, so the farmers are hoping for more intensive rains, Korpáš added.

North hit by powerful storms, floods, landslides

Rome, June 26 - A heat wave that has caused drought in much of Italy continued in the centre and south on Monday while many parts of the north were picking up the pieces after violent storms caused flash floods and landslides on Sunday.
In Rome a technical committee is set to give its opinion on whether to turn off the drinking water fountains in the capital due to the shortage.
At the environment ministry, meanwhile, experts have examining the worrying situation at Lake Bracciano, near Rome.
The lake's level has fallen sharply due to the drought and because a local water company has been taking more water from it than usual to meet demand.....

Heat plagues southeastern Europe
Extreme temperatures shift east, bringing a brutal heatwave to the Balkans.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/07/h ... 53369.html
But it hasn't only been Greece in the grips of a heatwave; Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, and Croatia are just a few of the southeastern European countries that have been experiencing temperatures well over 10 degrees above average. In Turkey, the cities of Antalya and Akhisar recorded highs of 45C on Friday.

Cities in Romania and Italy on Friday also produced some impressive high temperatures; Bucharest and Bari both reached 38C, while dozens of cities across the region easily recorded temps well into the mid 30's.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be equally hot, if not hotter, across much of the region, with Athens, Greece, expecting a high temperature of 43C Sunday....

Do you mean Iran or Greece/Balkans. I'm fond of both, but I don't see how either can be called "the cradle of civilization"

There are of course many such cradles, but arguably the earliest is Sumer (literacy there predates even the earliest Greek writings by a couple thousand years, iirc). If you meant cradle of Western Civilization, you'd be on much firmer ground.

But yeah, that whole are is going to get more and more unbearably hot.

Heat Wave 2017 => Cow mass die off in California
http://www.fresnobee.com/news/business/ ... 02269.html
Image

June heat wave contributes to spike in cow deaths – and now carcasses are piling up

Farmers in Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties are disposing of hundreds of cows that died in the June heat wave, overwhelming the region’s largest rendering plant.

The counties are allowing the dairies to bury or compost the carcasses because Baker Commodities in Kerman could not handle the volume of dead animals. The unusual run of June heat, including nine straight days of triple-digit high temperatures, and a mechanical malfunction at the plant contributed to the overload.

Wayne Fox, division manager of environmental health at Fresno County Department of Public Health, said Baker normally processes about 1 million pounds of animal flesh a day. Fresno County Board of Supervisors Chairman Brian Pacheco, who is a dairy farmer, said Baker had ratcheted up its capacity to 1.5 million pounds per day before a daylong machinery malfunction significantly slowed the rendering process......

“I am aware that we had an extremely hot spell that led to a very high mortality rate and it did exceed our capacity,” said Jimmy Andreoli II, assistant vice president, public relations/corporate procurement for Baker Commodities in Southern California.

Cows are burning correct, but not because of adverse weather, they are being incinerated under controlled conditions, just like in the original image.
