Here we can present sunny happy stories, and not worry about whether there are any down sides.

Enough with the doom and gloom around here! :-D :-D :-D

Spring is here.

By next thursday temperatures here in central Alaska are predicted to get up above freezing for the first time in five months.

That means the snow will start melting and there will be drips and drops and liquid water again! Hoo-RAY! I can't wait to see liquid water!

Spent a day ice fishing a couple hours northwest of Edmonton, well, hubby was fishing, I was exploring. Beautiful sunny day, snow still sparkly on the lake, still 3 feet of ice. I saw a couple of bald eagles perched at the top of a tree, did my best to get as close as I could but I guess I made them nervous. Next time I'll make sure I have the binoculars. Nice to get out of the city.

I go camping in the mountains every weekend, working in the city sucks the life out, just being in an organic natural environment, alone, peace & quiet, gives it back.

The peas and lettuce are sprouting. I love to see their little green faces smiling up at me. Looks like we will have 70's from now on. Just hope I can get a bunch of peas before we get to the 90's. The ground is pretty dry this year. Usually the garden is a mud hole this time of year. But dry means I can till and row very easily.

The trees here in NC started budding two-three weeks ago, one more week and we will be all green :)

The ground has just thawed enough so that I can put in peas, my heavily mulched potatoes, and some onion and leak seeds. It was glorious to see mats of oregano not only survive the winter under a think mulch of leaves, but apparently continue to spread...didn't know they would/could do that. Garlic planted last fall is also coming up, along with some of the strawberries I planted last year.

I'm going to transplant some native onions from my yard into my new plot, not so much because I eat them much, but it's just so nice to see something (besides grass) coming up green in the very early spring here in MN.

Gardening is my escape into nature, though I do take long bike trips sometimes. It's just that I have decided to mostly stop 'loving nature to death' by driving or flying places to enjoy it.

A hawk was eating another bird in my back yard. First time I've ever seen one in my corner of suburbia. He ate everything except for the skull and the other's birds feet. Feather's everywhere. A great show to watch.

I hear you Sea, I still go occasionally to NYC, and I return upstate drained. Some bad vibes in the city

Cog, we live along a flyway (Mississippi River), so quite a few hawks and falcons come through, and even in the middle of the city here, I have seen that drama played out a few times.

We have owls and rabbits :) When we first moved here, late at night, I heard a rabbit right outside the window scream bloody murder as he quickly rose into the air and faded away into the distance. Now there are more owls and less rabbits.

YES. I don't get out of the city a lot, but what I'll often do is drive to the outskirts, where I can see "country" and just walk with my dog. Always feel refreshed afterwards.
