Good points Newf. Yes if I am honest with myself I have not particularly gotten off grid and what is more I like my modern comforts and conveniences including of course the internet. So I will not be casting any judgements any time soon.

Really, though, I think I understand your general point here and broadly agree.

Maybe someone should show that to O?

Since the paper in question was written in 2004,

Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us

Saturday 21 February 2004 20.33 EST

by advisers to Donald Rumsfeld,

The report was commissioned by influential Pentagon defence adviser Andrew Marshall, who has held considerable sway on US military thinking over the past three decades. He was the man behind a sweeping recent review aimed at transforming the American military under Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Climate change 'should be elevated beyond a scientific debate to a US national security concern', say the authors, Peter Schwartz, CIA consultant and former head of planning at Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Doug Randall of the California-based Global Business Network.

I think O already knows about it.

Besides it is from Steve Goddard's blog where he posts old main stream media articles about climate thinking it proves anything ....
How cathartic it is to give voice to your fury, to wallow in self-righteousness, in helplessness, in self-serving self-pity.

Nice catch. I seem to remember seeing something about Dole, Republican candidate who lost to Bill Clinton, saying that he thought all the current Republican presidential candidates had lost their minds, or something similar. Sorry, no time to check source right now. Should be easy to find though.
