Yeah, sounds right.
I've been flying WestJet in Canada and I guess I should have mentioned my flights to Tulsa have been connecting through Denver.
Either way it makes sense. Less flights = fuller planes even if there are less total passengers.

I just went through all 15 pages of this thread, the highest price you reported here was $4.08 in July 2008 when crude was climbing like a rocket.

Along the way during the power climb from $2.80 in December 2007 you kept commenting on how bad this was for the industry.

If we hit $2.80 again this year will it be as bad or has the industry learned its lesson and prepared this time around?

It will be just as bad for the industry this time around..probably worse. Revenues are still down and another hit with rising fuel costs will do further damage IMHO.

I was not able to find the thread about refinery margins. Can someone elaborate why the refining margins are extremely low now? And what would be the gas price if the margins had not changed?

4.74 Avgas

2.29 Jetfuel.

Jetfuel is Climbing once again into pain territory.

I cannot find Avgas anymore around here (Central GA.) for less than 4$/gal. At 5 it starts to curtail my flying and the things associated with that flying.

2.50 was beautiful...dont think I'll ever see that again.

Avgas 4.79

Jetfuel 2.14

Not sure what is causing the jet fuel move at the moment. I expect a ramp up in summer schedules for all the majors, so that will likely not trend much more downward.

AvGas - 4.80
Jet - 4.41

Keep in mind that these prices flux with region, and many places have full serve only, which means they -------- you for an extra 80 cents a gallon.

Jetfuel has once again become a thorn in the side of the airlines. Above 4$/gal national average.
This is a significant increase due to the increased summer schedules. Interesting to note is price has note abated yet as we roll into the post summer schedules which usually are somewhat smaller than the summer ones.

Gasoline is really moving. Oil is pushing past 82. Could be an interesting winter. I'd be shocked if any more than a couple airlines were still operating commercially in a few years, absent taxpayer welfare.

.
Tanada , the quoted price of West Texas intermediate on the New York market is not to be taken too literary ,
the real price for people who actualy use oil is the OPEC benchmark
it is oil which is pumped , transported and used ,
there is not so much volatility but the price rise has been unrelenting
that's where users companies insure themselves against sharp changes ,most professionnal users were protected against the sharp mid 2008 spike unfortunately it's impossible to insure against a tidal rise .

AP with all the other fuels jumping what is going on with Jet and Avgas prices? Seems likely they are up but I have not heard anything recently.

Well let me rephrase that, I have not heard any prices lately but the airlines flying out of Toledo Express announced another cut in the schedule due to low occupancy of flights. I remember flying the last time I did a few years ago and aircraft were packed like sardine tins because if they were not full the airlines lost money on the flight.

If I am reading the table http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/economics/ ... index.aspx correctly then Jet fuel has now crossed $2.54 a gallon once again. I presume this is going to really pinch the airline industry in America at least.

I think anything above the area where we are now starts to really impact the bottom line. It won't be such a huge issue until we move into the increased summer schedules after May.

I like this page better...

Delta Profit Misses Expectations; Shares Fall
Delta Air Lines reported a lower-than-expected profit as fuel prices and plane repair costs increased, putting pressure on shares.
"Revenues were a little bit higher than expected but expenses were definitely higher than expected," said Matthew Jacob, an airline analyst with ITG Investment Research.

The second-largest carrier behind United Continental Holdings [UAL 25.02 -0.86 (-3.32%) ] Tuesday said net income came to $19 million, or 2 cents a diluted share, for the fourth quarter, compared with a year-earlier loss of $25 million, or 3 cents a share.

Excluding items such as merger-related costs, profit was 19 cents a share. Analysts on average expected 24 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
