The artificial German sun won't immediately fix this conundrum, because Synlight itself requires a vast amount of electricity to operate.

Well, not sure how much of a game changer this can be when it requires so much electricity to function

Its likely a white elephant project. Power plants need a continuous power source to function normally. At best this devise could be switched on to keep solar power plants running when it is cloudy or if it rains for a little while. Nothing remarkable to see here.

This is a test facility to develop technology.

If the technology works then they will use the real sun to run it.
