The most important medicine currently is and has always been sanitation. In fact, most modern medicine isn't even worth crap in comparison with good sanitation.
The people of the middle ages, and the people of the early American cities, didn't live a measly 30- or 40- some years on average because that's how short a life humans naturally have without the oh-so-great innovations of modern medicine. After all, the people of many gatherer-hunter and early farming societies could live much longer on average, and usually much healthier too. The reason they lived such short lives was because they lived in, ate, drank, and bathed in each others' sh-t, and because they were so crouded in their beloved cities that the spread of any disease was inevitable. The major role of modern medicine is to take care of the sickly, the old, and the weak; reasonable sanitation is what improved the condition of society in general.
Here's a lesson from history, friends. If you want to live a long, healthy life, you generally have to do at least one of these two things: Live in a society with good sanitation, or live outside of cities and suburbs.
and braces. What if theres a sudden crash and I can't get a a professional to get my braces taken off?! That would teh suck.
No problem. I got some needle nose pliers.
If you did that my teeth would come off! It's "cemented" on there! They need to use a special cement remover thingee to take them off. Unless I break into an orthodontist place and take that stuff and do it my self.

Most of the health benefits of the last 150 years have come from knowledge of germs (sanitation) and vitamins (nutrition). If you don't crap in your water and eat a diverse variety of unprocessed foods your chances of living a healthy life are greatly enhanced. Sadly many today still drink toxic water and eat harmful pseudo-food like industrially hydrogenated fat. So much knowledge and so little use of it. Anyone care to offer an explaination for the utter depravity of propagandizing human beings to ingest 1500 calorie mega-death burgers and diet soda???
Modern medicine is basically traditional medicine with cut in it. The ultimate purpose of that is to make ridiculous amounts of money, but it also makes it easy to ingest, since the raw extract of the given plant is usually quite potent. There may have been some other components added to traditional medicines, but not nearly as much as today.

Making money? Taking the cheapest, most harmful food available, making it tasty enough for people to enjoy regularly, is a good way to make make money off of all of the peasants working themselves to the point of where they can't prepare their own meals.
It's absolutely disgusting, in my opinion. But I don't hold such people to a high standard, so I can only expect them to become even more loathsome.
Out here in suburbia, the female of the species homo suburbianis is extremely dependent on technology. Most of these ladies have never broken the soil with metal tools, never had to haul water, and never had to travel more than 5k without the use of the famed SUV.
Furthermore, these females are so poor in the art of self defense they find themselves locking themselves into large, fortified homes, with burglar alarms so as to summon the authorities in case anything more threatening than a Mormon is seen on the street.
To make matters worse, the offspring are even more ill-equipped to survive any sort of physical inconvenience. True story: I coached soccer a couple of years ago, 11 and 12 year old boys (plus my daughter) and a third of the team literally could not complete two laps of the field without vomiting.

I am not suprised one of my shortest relationships was with a single father whose daughter I took with my own to the park one day. The park is maybe 1/4k away and she had to rest 3/4 of the way there because she was tired. This was a 6 year old.
My six year olds could go 80 times further than that, no joke. now at the ripe age of 8 yrs old and its nothing for them to go on a 3km walk with me. (know because our block is exactly 1 km around.)
what kind of quality of life is that? that should be considererd cruel and inhumane. I thought it was funny that my best friend refered to my kids as "free range" but she was closer to the truth than I knew. but it also explains why I can't get them to keep any weight on.

Truth be known, the most serious thing about this issue of kid health is the ramifications for national defense. A lot of these articles touch on it, but not many come out and say it, but I would say the army is fully aware of the squishiness of these kids, and they well know that any kind of re-institution of the draft would mean the problem of getting these little dorks in shape to keep them from being so much dead weight, and a net drain on the military.
Needless to say, the army does not want any part of it.
Not to mention the whining of the suburban moms, and the army of lawyers that would be hired for lawsuits when these kids' self-esteem gets hurt during basic training.
When it gets to the point that the army no longer has confidence that the average citizen is fit to fight for our national defense, we got trouble.

I remember a case a few years ago where a delinquent was finally old enough that they jailed him the next time he stole a car.
Because he was all of 18 but had never been jailed before they put him in segregation. Two reasons, one was casue they were overcrowded and two, because being a newbie its easier to put them in seg until they stop freaking out every time an imate walks by.
His mother sued the gov't for putting him in Segregation cause you only get one hour out each day. Ignore the fact that he had been stealing cars since he was ten and once he was old enough to go to juvie he got smarter and they didn't catch him. So here he is stealing cars and going to jail. WAAHHH!
She said ti was damaging to him, it deprived him of contact with his family cause he couldn't call them except on his one hour out. I'll end the post here before I resort to uncharacteristic obsenities.
I'm really out of shape. It takes me 12-13 min or so to run 1 mile.
Count me in as one of the "squishy kids". But it's not ALL our fault! We have no need to work out.

Dude, todays military aint like the military from WWII. Half the guys in the military just sit on their butts and type on computers all day. Lots of them are in bad shape too. The "trigger pullers" are a small minority.

They may be fat and out of shape, but the most dangerous thing you could come up against is that armed UAV being flown from some remote location by a trash talking, fat ass, cheese puff eating teenager is some American city far across the Atlantic.
Militaries reflect current war technologies. Romans needed to be in shape, bc the 18" gadius and a 40lb shield were the best technology they had, and you had to be in shape to walk with it and wield it. Not anymore, we drive and fly into battle, better yet, we fly UAVs into battle. So, we just don't need a bunch of guys that can run 4 minute miles. We learned that the trigger pullers became obsolute in WWI ( 60K dead at Battle of the Somme in in less than 3 days by the machine gun).
Computers, UAVs, and missiles don't have to be carried into battle. They can be flown into battle by a smart ass teenager that has been playing those same type of computer games since he was 6. So, we really aren't that different than the Spartans or Nazis that began training boys as young as 7 how to fight, except now, instead of playing sports to develop the muscles to fight, they play playstations and learn to fly with joysticks the missiles of tomorrow.

My youngest brother(5) is a type-1 diabetic, so I am obviosly concerned about the possiblity of some major disruption in prescription medication. I'm hoping that some of the permanent cures for diabetes, such as islet transplants, will become mainstream before the crap hits the fan. It would be a great relief not to have to deal with chronic illness.. _________________ "Abortion doctors aren't baby killers. They're life un-ruiners"

Pup, could be my malfunctioning brain, but these seem properly placed. We're techno-junkies and you're on point. _________________ --------------------------------
