Preparation in Suburbs/Miushrooms/Fish

I would like to move to the country but I guess we won't be able due to financial reasons. We're stuck in the suburbs with only 400 sqm of land.
I begun to grow useful plants for sale.
I have some more ideas which might make a living with very little land.
Due to house prices which may slope in future we might be able to buy a piece of land close by to do all this. There are still some lots available.

1. Growing mushrooms
2. Growing bamboo (furniture, stakes, eating)
3. Keeping fish
4. maybe 100 chicken or so (might be different due to zoning law, but there is industry around, so we might be able to find an industrial site)
How viable are these ideas and does anyone has experience?

Zoning laws - - they will become less strict as the panic sets in.

keep chickens, but just be prepared for the complaints when the roosters start crowing at 4AM.

By then you will have learned to pluck said same chickens/roosters

We have got chickens, but until now we don't eat them. Killing and plucking might be the hard work. Our zoning laws allow for 6 chicken and no roosters, but that's the need of ourselves.

How do city dwellers feed their animals? How did they do in Cuba?
