We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

I put a few comments up here recently and it occured to me that there are quite a few people out there who have purchased, or are close to purchasing land out in the sticks with a view to becoming more self sufficient.
Does anyone out there think it may be worth creating a map of these sustainable sites so people can call in help from each other if needed. I am not thinking of the gung ho armed to the teeth sort of thing, but there could well be times when an extra pair of hands could be useful, or being able to barter skills etc. like a PO version of woofing?
I used a good overlay for google maps recently of small hotels in Italy, I was thinking something like that could be quite useful? or are we all to independently minded?

Yeah, sounds like a map of targets. Networking is a good idea, but I'd keep it more low key. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

I wish we knew of the location within 50 miles of some likeminded people. It would be great to have them come over and help us with a project (like building the cold room in the basement, or the like), in exchange for which we could do the same for them.
The problem is that we also don't want our location known because of the fact that we ARE preparing, and so many others are not.
So ... sigh ... it's a great idea to have a map. But there would be a level of trust involved that we just don't have. If we KNEW it would only be PO people who would see it, and PO people who were themselves doing something to help themselves prepare, that would be one thing. But, of course, that is not possible.
I have quit talking to anyone about peak oil. Things are coming to crash mode so quickly now. I want to be the one who gets the toilet paper and meds and food stocked up.
A large part of the die off in this country will be the ignorant (those who didn't know) and, worse yet, the ones who had the oppotunity to know but wouldn't listen. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Well, the time for that opportunity to learn about it from me has passed. Because the time of tribulation is now too close at hand. Must expend energies, money, and good sense in just plain getting ready for our clan.

I prefer my location to remain relatively unknown. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy

That's silly. Do you think hordes of people, unable to plan for a PO disaster themselves, will nevertheless be savvy enough to take a map of Peak Oiler properties to loot when the going gets rough in two, three, twenty years?
If they had the wherewithal to plan ahead like that, they wouldn't be in such deep crap to begin with.

Now, what if Blackwater got possession of this map...? _________________ "And the cost of a thing, it will be remembered, is the amount of life it requires to be exchanged for it, immediately, or in the long run." H.D. Thoreau

I've thought about doing this but it would be a PRIVATE list available only to those in the network.
That would be far more successful.
Its one thing to trust the publix. Its another to trust someone with verifiable resources of their own and the right mindset. There are some people on this forum I would share my locations with should they need them. But then again, I know if they showed up they would be bringing a lot to the table with them.
What i dont need is every Joe Schmoe in a 500 miles radius deciding to hoof it to Compound 007 when things really start to fall down around their ears.
Course, the flip side is having a steady stream of food and fertilizer always headed your way would be handy......Hmmm...... _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the
