Me too. There have been a few threads I would have liked to share with my kids but won't because they're poisoned with foul language and mean or unkind remarks. |
Eastbay has an outstanding point here, and it is one that he has made before and I appreciate it.
If you must use foul language you should use it VERY sparingly; that way it continues to have some small amount of shock value.
Of course anyone who wants to use foul language can do so, but as a communication tool I think it should be used like a rare spice that stays in the cabinet most of the time.
If you love to curse, maybe you could just curse a little bit less. _________________

Is this still a computer game, a fantasy to you folks?
There are lots of people who read this site for real information and we are still bitching about who has what label!
Crap, this is more like Junior High all the time!
Grow up and help out or go to facebook or whatever the kids with overflowing angst do.

Pops- that is why I don't like the labeling- it reminds me of Junior High...
But yeah you're right its small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. I guess I take some small ownership in the site as a simple contributor and I get frustrated when I see things about it that I think might detract from its credibility. But whatever, I don't like the Bee Gees a lot but sometimes they're on the radio and I have to listen. Big deal- so okay...uncle. |

Agree about the easy going mods. I had to deal with a mod at another forum who was draconian to begin with, then went through a midlife crisis - which he took out on errant posters. The fur flied!
Also wish there were more posters from the oil/gas industry, ideally not snide trolls, too.
A forum like this is great as a news source, or for tracking the ongoing status of inventories/pipelines/refineries. The archives built up in PFTF is outstanding - the thread on wood stoves is amazing, for instance.
Hate? Sometimes the server's a little pokey but hey, that happens.
Will try not to use so many gol' darn cuss words in the future.

all in all I like the forum (if not I won't read it)
two things I dislike:
1. overlong posts - why can't you write short?
2. abbreviations people from outside the US can't understand - there are some countries outside the US.
I find PO way better than the LATOC forum, they're a bit of panics, many overblown news and all gun lovers. |

What do I like about PO.com?
That we don't get crap like this from the admins...
| Quote: | I have noted a decided and precipitous rise in the level of "moonbattishness" in posts on the forum the last couple of weeks.
I will say it once here, and this is not a debating point, nor open to discussion - if the people responsible do not start acting in a responsible manner in what and where they post on the forum, they will find their ability to post anywhere except in TINFOIL barred without warning or notice.
I am spending far too much time on that crap and my patience is exhausted.
You who are guilty know who you are. I am not going to get into a debate over this, or a discussion. Threads in which you pollute will either be bilged or I will separate out your posts and bilge those, then lock your ability to participate in the areas that you pollute.
THINK BEFORE YOU POST because my workload is rising again and my willingness to herd children is at a "new 52 week low."
You're warned. |

Oh now I've got one to add, when I'm down and blue, and not knowing what to do, I can always find a statement like the quote above and I won't stop laughing for a SOLID 5 minutes.
Thank God for the experts and their ability to invoke peals of laughter and gaiety even on a rainy day. |

This is my biggest hate too. I guess people get bored with the lack of news so they start fabricating fantasies. |
I think the original peak oil "early adopters" were paranoid schizophrenics like golem, people who would have otherwise latched some other "end of the world" meme that plays to their predefined sense of reality. It just so happens that peak oil is real so you have a mixture of these nutcases and rational people as well. So this only has the result of discrediting peakoil.com because of the craziness displayed here (like the 911 merge thread).
So the only way to get anything out of these forums is to ignore half the active posters, otherwise it's like being Bruce Willis in the insane asylum in 12 Monkeys.

Not always.
There is just a lot of hatred of the status quo here which gets to the point where the US gets blamed for all the ills in the world, past, present, and future and there is no shortage of virtual head-nodding that takes place when someone posts an Alex Jones or Al Jazeera propaganda hit piece. |

I had a buddy who was banned, but, other than that, mods are great. And to be fair, my banned buddy was a real moderator baiter, a real master.
As for swearing, I'm really trying to cut back. I often have to edit my posts to clear up the ugly textual detritus. |

I like this site for reasons that are not hard to grasp.. I think Peak Oil is a potentially decisive phenomenon that could dramatically change the current way of life in the industrialised world, so it's nice to get to see what other people from around the world think about it.
I very much do not like the cultish aspect of peak-oilism and how somebody almost instantly gets called names when questions or doubts some or all effects of the petroleum depletion on human life.
I very much hate that lately there seems to be an epidemic of religious threads that have nothing to do with peak oil.
Christian perspective on peak oil..
Shaman perspective on peak oil..
Buddhist perspective on peak oil..
What next? Muslim perspective? Zoroastrian perspective? Atheist perspective?
WTF? [ pottentially code of conduct violation cursing and insulting of religious idiots selfcensored. ]
I'd like the option to completely Ignore a topic that I do not like or I am not interested in. |
