We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

The Peak Oil discussion forum is for hydrocarbon depletion "related" discussions only. We are looking for provocative posts that dig into the big picture with an in-depth analysis of peak oil and what it means to the future. Tie your post to peak oil/gas/coal "depletion" and the related consequences.

Posts that are just news links or links to essays or articles about peak oil are best placed in the Current Events or Energy Forum or submitted to our news editors. Details on posting news can be found in the Board Kiosk Forum. We are trying to keep the threads with indepth discussion on peak oil and it's consequences on the front page. Posting news links, or links to essays or articles about peak oil here just pushes them off.

Now, if you wish to start a discussion about certain aspects of the article that's another thing, but don't just post a news/article link.

Please make "off topic" posts in the related Roundtable forums or use the Open forum for any topic. While these issues are complex, please limit lengthy posts. The forum supports hyperlinks, so detailed and lengthy information can be linked without posting in it's entirety.

Posts that are questions or basic in nature should be posted in the Welcome Forum.

Posts deemed not appropriate to this forum's discussion will be moved.

How about a humor section then? It gets a tad heavy in those forums- and I appreciate that- but it seems like a good dose of silliness might be a good antidote to heavyhanded intensity once in a while. Thoughts?

Personally i come here for the news stories because there easy to find and in one place. I go to oildrum when i want in depth anaylsis. Be careful changing to many things because i like the layout of peakoil and i think most others would agree.

Also, the next time something like this comes up, instead of screaming your orders like himmler at a nazi military parade, perhaps some tactfulness would produce less iritated readers.

It's a website not the CIA.
