Israel Says Iran Will Be Destroyed If Attacked

An Israeli government minister warned on Monday that Israel would respond to any Iranian attack by destroying that country, public radio reported.

"An Iranian attack against Israel would trigger a tough reaction that would lead to the destruction of the Iranian nation," National Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said in remarks of rare virulence.

Yes, that window of opportunity - while there's still a friendly face in the Oval Office and the Mullahs haven't got their bomb yet - is closing. Will they, won't they - do the Israelis have the balls/stupidity to spark a proper regional war?

I don't think the US has the wherewithal or stomach or single-minded bovine stupidity to go for Iran - already being bogged down in two unsuccessful wars and with a tanking economy. But Israel, who knows with those guys? I suppose I'd have an itchy trigger finger if I was surrounded by wild-eyed, nuclear armed jihadists who wanted to "convert" me.

Yea I agree Micki, there's no oppression in the countries surrounding Israel. Those are just shining examples of free countries. What with noone trying to kill their children on a daily basis, how dare those Israelis do such.

Mao was right when he said: "political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.". That's the whole Israeli-Arab situation in a nut shell.

The Arabs would like to eliminate Israel, but they can't figure out how to do it. All the talking and diplomacy for the past 50 years might have well never have happened. The situation would have remained the same.

Regardless of who is right and who is wrong in the Israel-Iran potential conflict, I think it will be very difficult to destroy Iran. Its is a large country. The amount of nuking it would take would impact the entire world for a long time.

And, as they were sinking, they could inflict substantial harm on neighbouring powers or even the US fleet that they deemed to be enemies.

Iran is several times more powerful than Iraq was in 2003. Start wit the fact they have a way larger army. Add to that a functional air force and navy. Those two last items are things Iraq did not have.
