We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

Planted 18 Rutger's tomato plants, 6 bell peppers, and 3 cayenne peppers. All 3 garden plots are full. Like my scrounge collection, I'm not allowed to bring home any more garden stuff, until we get rid of something tp make room. Guess I'll have to wait till the beans and peas get done, and maybe some lettuce, before I can plant more.

Called the LP guy today, but hasn't got back to me yet on our hook up.

Put more bricks in the wall

http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic34781-30.html

Moved 3000 pounds of concrete mix... twice... to get it out of the way of the bobcat guy bringing my marsh dirt up to the new garden area.

Otherwise I watched the bobcat guy tear up the yard before we decided that there is too much clay in the area that was to be leveled for the new barn. Tomorrow I get a load of crushed shale and he takes a second shot at getting the spot level.

Cool! Who hatched the turkey? I haven't been following all the threads so forgive me if you've already talked about that.

We got our new chicks in the mail today. They're doing great so far. I wish they'd had some silkies left when I ordered, they make great moms and they're so cute.

Today I attended my first kidding completely alone - no help. I was a nervous wreck, hoping for no complications. Cinnamon was a trooper and an old pro, and didn't even need me there Smile. She had triplets - all three doelings! And they are gorgeous. Will post a couple pics in the "goat and sheep" thread.

I learned that I can do a lot more on my own than I thought I could. That's a good feeling Smile.

One of the ewe's had triplets. Since Buddy was about to succumb to the cold and very aggressive sisters we brought him home to " save him". He now believes he is a dog, will not stay in the very expensive pen I built and pees on the hardwood. Some times peak oil preparations can go very sideways.

This is a critical lesson I try to teach the new guys I work with:
What you CAN do and what you THINK you can do are completely separate. Simply making an attempt is how you learn that your limits and abilities far and away exceed what you think the are.

We have two turkey hens "team sitting" on 9 eggs. They insisted on being right next to each other while brooding. I hope there'll be more babies out there today!

Started building 3 more raised beds to add to the 6 I built last week.....
In an ironic twist, as my dad was pulling out of our driveway, after taking us to the big box hardware place for wood and supplies, his truck collided with a big old Expedition. Nobody was hurt but it left that icky feeling in my stomach...yuk.

Thus, my hate for vehicles grows as does my garden!

I think I'll take the carbon bike into work today...what a treat!

Bought stuff for our brooder for our new chicks, due on Friday. Hatchery order did not go thru and now they don't have what I wanted available. I was able to find 7 chicks locally that I can pick up on Friday. 2 Ameracaunas, 3 Marans, and 2 Game Mixes. I really wanted some Buff Orpingtons, but the lady on had a few of those and they were gone before I found out about her. Did not get 25 which was originally the plan, though, so I am still looking for more locally. Would like to have some fancies too.

Canned some grape jelly - then realized I had only done 1/2 the sugar needed because I doubled the recipe. SIGHHH... so I have some really thick, slightly sweet grape juice. Anyone know if I can put this all back through the process and add the sugar and start over. I hate to waste 10 jars.

Made notebooks of all the info I've gathered on the internet over the past couple years about homesteading and self-sufficiency.

RedStateGreen - I pm'ed you.

No problem. Just add the sugar and heat to dissolve it well, then go through the normal canning cycle again. Had to do that a few times when we left out the pectin or measured wrong on the sugar, etc. Go for it!
