Oh crap. You sound like you're working against the clock then. Well....good luck Pops.
100 to 200? WOW. Are you sure it's worth it?
Maybe Nik's seedling source would be easier. |

Yea! It was 60* this morning at sunrise and now at 2:30p it is 20* on my front porch with a nice breeze of 25-35 mph or so and flurries. I about froze my ears off getting my chores done early – gotta love the Ozarks!
I sure think any plant acclimatized and proven to go native in a particular locale is the one to reproduce from instead of one proven good for a commercial seller for his climate and practices.
I want to take a pic of just how many sprouts are on broken limbs of this little tree and then shoot one of some other trees around here just so everyone can get an idea of this - probably silly to most folks, opportunity. _________________ Make a plan and work it: |

Hey Pops, I am planning to get a bunch of those seedlings from OK like Nik suggested, and if you'd like I'd be happy to mail you a few of them free, maybe they will adapt to your place fine. I'm planning to call about them sometime this week. Bump this thread in a few days in case I forget, okay?
Sorry about the ice storm(s), I know how destructive they can be. _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young |

Shanny,
Maybe a buncha folks could go for a group buy. I could go for 30+ or so.
Goldsby isn't exactly on my way to work, but I could arrange to pick'em up. Its just outside west norman.

Since we are talking and I have the potential of quite a few sprouts I might be willing to sell a few rooted starts on a pay-if-they-live basis in a month or two if anyone is interested.
I know solicitation is against the rules and all… _________________ Make a plan and work it: |

That would be great. I would love to plant a bunch of these, but 100 (even 50) is overkill for me. 30 would be just right for me as well.
I should be up there in Norman in March for a conference. I'll check the dates when I get home and PM you. _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young |

OK here is what I did
All set up, Pearlite, cuttings, hormone and beer.
Diagonal cut at the root end leaving a bud down low and some scrapes through to the cambium.
I put the hormone powder in a jar so I could shake off the excess without wasting any...
Under the vinyl stuff where you can see I marked a grid for soil blocks is a heat mat, then a thin layer of rigid insulation and then poly and chicken wire which supports the whole thing.
The heat mat works off the thermostat at the top right and the thermocouple is stuck in the pearlite in the middle of the pan.
Then close the door and look for some more pans...

This is where I am.
When the buds sprout leaves and start breathing is the most critical time in rooting I've found, not enough stuff going to those leaves. I have no rot on the bottom and little drying at the top - no difference in the cuttings I capped with candle wax and the ones I didn't.
Notice also (on the bottom right) the soil blocks that were washed out when the plastic on the roof gave way and we had to start over on tomatoes and peppers.
A different story there...
But we have some roots - a good sign.
