Yep - easily home made as well! I've made several out of the scraps of fabric I've used to make MCN's for the babies - Would never go back to those nasty processed polluting plastic fantastic's now! |

Mom and Me pads are the best I've found so far - they are a million times better than normal pads, and to my mind, the best of the cloth ones. To be perfectly honest, I would never go back to the normal commerical pads - the difference in comfort is huge.

Good post rj5156, most people today don't know how to do
even minor repairs to cloths. Any technology that gives people back
the ability to take care of themselves is a good thing, especially in
these uncertain times. I'll have to forward my wife here |

I'm a very keen sewer / knitter / spinner of wool / preserver etc - self taught from books and the old lady down the road over the last few years and I'm constantly amazed at a) how satisfying it is and b) how few people do it! I think the thing that really amazes me is how many people (women in particular) say things like "ooohhhhh you're so clever - I could never do anything like that" without actually giving it a go I'm not the worlds best seamstress...in fact I failed those compulsory sewing classes they make you do at 11 or 12 years old (or at least they used to!)
Those mama-pads in the above links can be made for a few $ and a couple of hours - I recently made my sister a beautiful set of 12 for $20 materials (brand new materials - could have been as cheap as a couple of dollars had I recycled some 2nd hand fabrics). Learning to reuse and recycle is something I think will become really important in the future and we practise it as much as possible. Hubby's old flannelette pyjama's are a great source of material - my son has four pairs of PJ shorts from one pair! An old embriodered pillow case makes a beautiful summer frock for a 18month old girl. Add a rinse with dye and you've got an original and totally "new" item! You get the idea |

I particularly like the sea sponge 'tampons'. They're lots cheaper if you buy them in the make-up section, sterilize, wet, wring out (I put in a clean cloth and squeeze all excess moisture out), insert and go. Remove, wash, rinse, repeat.
If you're put off by the removal you could probably attach a string.
Guys, it never hurts to be prepared. Most of you have mothers, sisters, friends with wives, etc. even if you are single now. |

sort of stuff, I agree it's important...

I also know my way around a sewing machine (let the jokes begin).
But I don't know how well it'd fly if I made my wife a bunch of these.

Well guys, perhaps that's a good test to find out if the woman you're seeing would make a good post peak wife! _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young |

hahahahahah! That is definitely a problem that I have found.
Try finding an attractive woman who wants to bugger out and is within the age of 18. There aren't. Hopefully I'll find a girl in Europe, but the few girls I do know who aren't quite hooked to the system aren't attractive at all! Not saying it's all about looks, it's just that without being physically attracted to them...welll.... |

Nothing unmanly about that - my hubby can kill, skin and dismantle an animal - and then he can do a lovely job of cooking it....and he can crochet with the best of the nana's (his mother taught him well!). The other night I had him sitting on the dining room floor with me drafting a new nappy pattern (he likes the "mathematical" side of projects like that). He would rather be able to make his own socks than go with out them....and is secure enough in his "maleness" to do it |
