I believe I saw that one before, and that estimate is based only on seismic readings. I don't record discoveries in this thread based just on seismic readings, they must drill a well and actually find oil. |

It's becoming more and more apparent that offshore Ghana is about to shape up as a major new play. Will definitely have to keep an eye out on this one.

| Quote: | Kosmos Energy announces today that the company’s Mahogany-2 well drilled offshore the Republic of Ghana on the Kosmos-operated West Cape Three Points Block has encountered a substantial light oil column based on the results of drilling, wireline logs and reservoir fluid samples. The Mahogany-2 well encountered a gross hydrocarbon-bearing interval of 193 meters (663 feet) with net hydrocarbon-bearing pay of 50 meters (164 feet) of high-quality stacked reservoir sandstones. Kosmos plans to complete the well and execute a drillstem test shortly.
Results obtained thus far indicate that the Mahogany-2 well is in communication with the Mahogany-1 discovery well on the West Cape Three Points Block that Kosmos announced in June 2007 and the company’s Hyedua-1 confirmation well on the Deepwater Tano Block announced in August 2007. These successful wells validate that Jubilee is a significant oil field. The Mahogany-2 well, the field’s second appraisal well, confirms a major field extension.
The well was drilled approximately 6.1 kilometers (3.8 miles) northeast of the Mahogany-1 well and 11.3 kilometers (7 miles) northeast of the Hydeua-1 well. The Mahogany-2 well was drilled in water depths of 1,080 meters (3,543 feet) by the “Songa Saturn” drillship and reached a total depth of 3,443 meters (11,296 feet).
[...]
The well confirms Jubilee as a giant field, the largest discovery in deepwater West Africa since the inception of Kosmos in 2003, one of the biggest finds ever made here and potentially the largest single field discovery in this region,” said James C. Musselman, Kosmos Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

| Yeah it was also a nice day for me also as I am a Tullow Oil holder. Apparently the investment community is now expecting a P50 of 1 BB according to my sources. |

According to this there could be as much as 1.8 billion barrels:
| Quote: | | However, this did not prove to be the case and the results now suggest that the field is an 11km-long "strategic trap" of oil held in place by non-porous rock. That is good news for volume estimates, and Tullow now believes the well is 90 per cent certain to yield 600m barrels, with a 50 per cent likelihood of there being 1 billion barrels. However, there is a chance that it could generate as much as 1.8 billion barrels. The discovery represents more than Tullow's entire current production. The company expects to begin producing from the field in 2010. |
I've already cataloged 800 million barrels from this for 2006 and 2007, so I'll wait for further official word from Tullow and partners before I add any more to it. _________________ Abundance - what a concept! |

Lukoil, Gazprom Find Oil at Tsentralnaya in Caspian (Update2)
| Quote: | May 29 (Bloomberg) -- OAO Lukoil, Russia's largest independent crude producer, and state-run OAO Gazprom found a ``major'' oil field after drilling the first exploration well at the Tsentralnaya site in the Caspian Sea.
``The well gushed a fountain of low-sulfur oil during field tests,'' Moscow-based Gazprom and Lukoil said today in joint e- mailed statements.
The site, in the Russian part of the Caspian near the border with Kazakhstan, may hold 3.8 billion barrels of oil and 91.7 billion cubic meters of gas, the companies said after setting up a joint venture in 2003. Lukoil at the time said it may cost as much as $12 billion to develop. |
That's a big 'un. Feel free to shape into OF2 format. "If it not success, I will be execute." _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi
