Are the unusually high number of refineries down for maintainance a result of the decreasing quality of crude that is killing the equipment?
Can we expect to see some shortages in the UK of diesel or unleaded due to refinery outages? _________________ Machines are what distinguish modern man from the savage.

Refinery Fire Services handled fire
The refinery's own fire services are said to have last night handled singlehanded an incident at the petro-chemical plant which saw a large ball of fire rise into the air from the base of one of the chimneys, and saw reports of four explosions heard by residents in the area.
According to Spanish sources, the fire was quickly under control, as fears grew amongst residents in the area after seeing the fireball, and a large plume of black dense smoke rise above the petro-chemical plant.
Cepsa Refinery Fire Near Gibraltar Is Extinguished (Update1)

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Compania Espanola de Petroleos SA's Gibraltar San Roque refinery in southern Spain, the country's biggest, caught fire yesterday.
The fire was put out immediately and caused no damage to the refinery or its employees, said a spokeswoman for Cepsa, who declined to be identified. The plant, which has a capacity of 223,000 barrels per day, is fully operational and production wasn't affected, said the spokeswoman for Spain's second-largest oil company.
The fire broke out at around 8 p.m. local time and was caused by an electrical fault in a storeroom containing raw materials for the production of lubricants, the spokeswoman said.
Campo de Gibraltar, where the refinery is situated, is located near the British-administered territory of Gibraltar.

Italian truckers are blocking the transit roads Switzerland - Italy in order to force the Italian government to lower the gasoline tax. Due to the road blockings some gas stations have already run out of gas.

Gas is 8-9 dollars a gallon in Europe.....Since they pay the same price for each barrel of oil we do, the EU and Italy must be taking in 5-6 dollars of tax on each gallon.

We have news on MTV3.fi website, that Greece has run out of gasoline in many stations due to truck drivers who deliver fuel to filling stations were on strike. Truck drivers demand 13% increase to their salary. The situation is expected to get worse on monday.
I couldn't find this news anywhere else on the net, Google news for example. Any greek here who could verify this?
The prospect of widespread fuel shortages due to an ongoing strike by the owners of private fuel tanker trucks is looking increasingly likely, as petrol stations around the country began to "run dry" on Sunday. Shortages of unleaded petrol and diesel used in motor vehicles were particularly acute, and drivers both in Attica and elsewhere around Greece faced the prospect of ending up with empty fuel tanks.

ATHENS, May 12 (Reuters) - Greece's fuel truckers on Monday decided to extend a strike that has cut petrol supplies, causing queues at filling stations and transport disruptions that threaten to bring the economy to a halt.
The strike has already lasted a week, leaving about three quarters of Greece's petrol stations without fuel for the fourth consecutive day.
Talks between unions and the government have failed to reach agreement so far. Fuel truck drivers want a 13 percent increase in their commission.
"The strike will continue at least until tomorrow. We will continue our efforts," said Yannis Alexopoulos, vice president of the fuel truckers union. "There is a positive climate in our talks with the government but our demands have not been met."
Throughout the country, Greeks scrambled for gasoline at stations that had been refuelled by some 180 independent fuel truck operators who were not on strike.
Some queues stretched more than 2 km and drivers were putting up with long waits, often without even filling their cars up as petrol stations rationed fuel, setting a limit of 20 euros to serve more cars.
