Don’t worry, just a little bump - $70 is just around the corner. Short traders just keep making those margin calls, mortgage the house if you have to. Fortunes await you! PO is for pansies and doomers. At $70 short some more ..... it is going back to $22 .... the world is awash with oil ........ reality has nothing to do with it, its all in those charts!!!!!!!!!!

I'll echo Specop, though will add two that are on the lower recoil side;
- Bersa Thunder 380: light, quality workmanship, easy to use and clean, can be carried concealed (with permit), low recoil, low cost, ammo abounds.
- FEG PA-63 (9x18mm): Same as above, though this is a military surplus handgun and is very inexpensive right now.
Always get trained on how to handle such a firearm, and store it in a safe manner.
I just wanted to add that if you find the Bersa Thunder 380 interesting, there´s a concealed carry version. There´s a review here: http://www.gunblast.com/Bersa_380CC.htm
This is the one i always carry (all in black) and i hardly feel it now. It has always proven to be very reliable.

If you are not familiar with semi-auto pistols and/or have the means to practice until operating it is second nature to you, then stay away from them. Get a good quality revolver - Smith & Wesson, Colt, Rugar, or Taurus - in either .38 or .357 cal. and several speed loaders. Choose one that fits your hand and feels good to YOU. Then take a class where you can use YOUR handgun taught by an instructor who knows what he's doing. Learn how to properly maintain your handgun. Locate a range nearby and go and practice on a regular basis.
Warning - be careful who you take advice from. There are plenty of "Experts" that get all of their info from advertisements and gun magazines- not from personal experience.
P.S Any quality gun shop will be able to help you find a class. _________________ "If everything is going well, you obviously overlooked something."

IMHO only:
Agree with ORCA regarding auto vs. revolver. I would suggest at least comparing an automatic hand gun with the following:
taurus ultralight 38 special revolver with a 2 inch PORTED barrel.
Only 5 shots but in close quarter defensive situation, you want something that u'll shoot and run..... and its very lite, ports lowers recoil, and concealable. With the right ammo, it can do damage.
disclaimer: this is just my opinion - I've no LE or other pertinent experience - please consult an expert

Why a revolver over a semi auto?
A revolver you have 6 shots then you have to reload. A semi auto you can go up to 30 shots before being required to reload. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the

Auto pistols are simply more complicated to operate than revolvers for folks that either are not familiar that much with handguns and/or buy a handgun, shoot it a few times, then put it in the nightstahd drawer never to see the light of day again, until.....
Under a high-stress situation, the simplier the better. Even though many autos fire with double action without having to manipulate any safety (Glock, Sig, Kahr, etc), limp wristing often results in a jam, AND an auto not properly "worn in" through firing may also malfunction.
Why not avoid that for a novice by instead using a revolver for it's ease of use and dependability?
Don't get hung up on high- capacity handguns. Most .45 autos only carry seven rounds yet no one can dispute it's ability to end a confrontation. Same goes for a .357 six-shooter! _________________ "If everything is going well, you obviously overlooked something."

Oh I own quite a few revolvers. I enjoy them.
I was just curious what your reasoning was. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the

You know, the odd thing is that I don't own a single revolver! (Well, that is that Taurus .38 that I purchased for my wife)
I have Colts, Brownings, Kel-Tecs, Sigs, and Glocks, but no wheel guns. Ummm...I think I need one! _________________ "If everything is going well, you obviously overlooked something."

Hi,
Just came on board this thread...
Our two cents... we have and carry both semi and revolvers. Choice of which to carry often depends on what we expect might come down...
Revolver, SP101 five shot .357, Smiths .357, Blackhawk .44 hand loads. Quick, dependable, hands dirt well, but speed loaders are bulky and harder to grab, quick carry and move out with.
Semi, Colts .45, Sigs 9mm, Berettas 9mm, (small guns) .32, .22. That is a few. Always nice to have choices, plus pulling up a second gun is great if I jam up or need to reload. Very fast fire, but this tends to waste ammo as the gun jumps all over if fired faster then one can draw a true bead with, mags are easier to pocket, a jam can ruin your day, not as friendly to dirt, most cases heavier.
Above all and no matter wht you use, practice a lot. Work the gun in the dark or with your eyes covered.
All of our top choices also carry one more add on which has proven a great return...Crimson Trace Laser. With that correctly sighted in, a hand gun can fire and hit a target from the...hip, raised weapon position without using barrel sights, firing from being more hidden from view and the sight of a "Red Dot" on another persons chest is enough to make them wet their pants..... This add on gives you dim light major advantages and in the dark when sights are not able to even be seen...the dot rocks. It works very well with night vision....Remember though, when/if you activate said device it can also reveal you position from certain angles.
Someone probably shared all this anyway...... if not hope it helps. We also have all our weapons broken down by a trusted gunsmith friend who ultra sound cleans them all and inspects every part. We are called if any springs need help, burrs or other problems are revealed, things like that. Potential problems have been averted this way more times than I can remeber....

Finally ordered the shotgun, we should be able to pick it up next week (I think), then both my husband and I will be learning to shoot with it! Scary and exciting! _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy

You might try low base light loads to get the hang of it all...then work your way up to heavier rounds. Laser red dot and flashlights on our shotguns give us a tremendous edge in the dark nights when I must go deal with some varmit on the ranch. It is near impossible to sight in a shotgun in the dark otherwise, plus with that set up one can hip shoot.
Dropped a 275 lb. bear in the dark with one shotgun round using the flashlight to reveal it and the red dot to place the round.

Yep...Pretty handy...
The red will go a hundred feet plus in bright day light, the green laser light will go way out there. In dimmer light the red will go 1000' or more, the green 3-4 times further.
I use a pressure switch mounted on various places on firearms so I can on/off for just a moment. Flashlights are pressure switched as well. We have quick releases on some units to keep the weight down, I velcro the pressure switch in place so it can be removed.
Thus I can stealth in the darkness and moment flashlight or laser something of interest. It blinds the object I am flashing very nicely. I understand the laser can mess up someones night vision as well.
Hope that helps. These units start out at less than 30.00 bucks on the internet, green costs more. I found one than was set up for night vision only..but it cost way to much. I will look into that more next time it rains and I rememeber....

Rules of rifles.
GRAB IT. It isnt a soft delicate toy, you wont break it! GRAB it and keep it TIGHT in your shoulder pocket.
Rule 2. You disregard rule 1 and its gonna kick like a goddamned mule.
And thats all you really need to know.
Ok so maybe I exxagerate a bit. But seriously, as long as you keep the rifle in your shoulder pocket and dont "hold it like a girl" you'll be fin. An 06 has a bit of snap to it but isnt too bad. You get a loose fit into your shoulder and it'll thump hard. Start off with trap or light game loads. Honestly trap loads in a shotgun are real easy shooting. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the
