We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

I'm 40, sober, married, have one wonderful kid, 4 cats, a house.......
Should have been a pro bike racer but I blew it when I was 19 on skateboarding, punk rawk, and beer.
Have been mostly working with children in the public school setting as well as teaching preschool for a number of years. Burned out on teaching
and went to work doing e-com stuff part time for a local surf, skate and snowboard shop here in Oregon.
Cushy job....easy bike commute....great co-workers and bosses!
I am teaching myself the rest of the stuff I don't know about bicycles in order to be the local neighborhood mechanic when PO smacks us down.
In my head, I am winning the Tour de France for the 8th time...w/o EPO!
That's me.

One of my young Madpaddy's is learning tradtional Irish songs at his own request. He'll be able to entertain people around the fire in the dark nights of the years ahead.

40-something wife and mom, sceptical and awed in fairly equal parts.
I just have to say, MP, that your son is beautiful. That is so well done. I have a lovely 2.5 year old who has memorized numbers of rhymes, songs, and tales who will be looking for a mate in ~15 years.

Forty-something, single, BS Australian Environmental Studies (Ecology/Land and Water processes) (Hons), currently working as a underminion of the Queensland State Government and currently using up my non-work hours keeping up with multitudinous blogs, webcomics, fanfiction, news services and email newsletters and drooling over blocks of land and rural houses for sale (that still cost way too much for me). _________________ Kind regards, Katkinkate

Adorable! He has quite a good memory for the lyrics considering his very young age.
Yeah, that talent will likely be very much appreciated when all of our high-energy, bright-lights entertainment wanes. I may be able to entertain as well, with some singing and bellydancing. I have learned recently that a bit of bongo drum accompaniment goes a long way to helping a bellydance along.

36 years old, married, no kids, no debt, attended college for 4 years studying things I was interested in with no regard to getting a degree.
Professional life has been in information technology (15+ years), specializing in *nix systems (AIX, Solaris), internetworking, IT process implementation (ITIL), and IT management. Currently working as the Director of Sustainability for Emma Inc. which encompasses Peak Oil preparation (where possible), technology management, and general strategy. My avocations include musical instrument engraving, music performance, all things saxophone, and PO preparation.
My wife and I just moved to Tennessee from Portland, Oregon, where we are working on buying 33 acres to start a 100% self-sustaining farm + avant garde/improvising musician's retreat. Our most recent project was converting our rental house landscaping and lawn into food growing. We just harvested over 60 pounds of onions today! I've been PO-aware since early 2003 and working to mitigate the situation as much as possible ever since that day.

Wife, mother of two grown sons (neither married...sigh...), married 31 years (to the same handsome hunk), 61 hrs completed towards major degree in journalism, minor in history, quilter, and genealogist (has everyone got copies of all birth certs, mg lic, and family history locked up in a safe, waterproof place??). My husband and I are the guardians of nine adorable ferrets: AndyPanda, Melvin, Freddie Littletail (had a fight with the paper shredder and lost 3 inches of tail), Henry, Tommy (deaf), Sadie, Cindylou, Jennie and Ginger.
My picture is of Emma, our alpha ferret who passed away Thanksgiving 2005 at the age of 7 yrs 11 mos. Everyone was amazed by her-she was like a human in a ferret body!

45, married with three teenagers. My training is in family medicine but I left all that in May 2000 to stay home with my children. I ran a patient education website for 4 years and then became a novelist (I write SF and fantasy mostly, not yet published but here's hoping).
In the past, I've worked in a plant nursery, as an EMT, and taught medical resident doctors for five years. I'm an organic gardener and like MMORPG's and turn-based strategy games.
My husband is a civilian programmer for a defense contractor. He believes the free market and oil shale will solve our energy troubles, but he's tolerant of my preparations as long as they don't inconvenience him too much.
I'm also a Christian pacifist Republican who's majorly pissed at her government. Don't get me started.

Hi I am a 29 year old Ph.D. in chemistry working on ethanol production from syngas. Am really interested and passionate about green energy and sustainability and want to pursue a career in this field. Just got married; moved to the States from London (UK) to life with my now wife who is American. Was hoping I might learn a few things here and get some hints and ideas
