from the BBC article:

"Malcolm Stewart, who drives a tanker at the terminal, said there were 20 tanks on the site, each holding three million gallons of fuel.

"It looks to me as if the entire depot is under fire."

If thats the case and it all exploded it would total 60 Million gallons of gasoline.

It was gasoline from what I can read.

If all 20 tanks blew up, that will equal 2,7 million barrels of gas lost.

Anyone who lives in England, take your car to a petrol station and fill it up NOW, also fill up some 5 gallon drums if you can. That is alot of fuel to be blown up, and also truck tankers are gone as well so supplies are going to have problems getting to the retail petrol stations. I can see petrol in the UK doubling in price over the next few weeks, so stock up on as much as you can to aviod paying a higher inflated price.

Could be couldn't it? Surprised the possibility wasn't mentioned. The lack of a decent symbolic target in th UK might be frustrating the terrorists. Infrastruture might prove to be a more effective target. I can remember when the IRA nearly blew up a major electricity grid installation that woud have blacked out London....but were luckily caught.

Looks like it might have been an accident, there goes my $10 :(

Quote:
HEMEL HEMPSTEAD (Reuters) - A series of explosions tore through a fuel depot north of London before dawn on Sunday sending flames and a column of black smoke high into the sky in what police said was most probably an accident.

"There is nothing to suggest at this stage that this is anything other than an accident, although we are keeping an open mind," a Hertfordshire police spokeswoman said. She also denied earlier reports that a plane had crashed into the depot.

I believe it was a terrorist attack, because al-Qaida has warned that they'll attack oil industry installations. There was a recent video tape, where they said that Osama is alive and they plan to attack oil industries.

Huh? The terrorists now know where it hurts I think (and further, we might be funding them even more with the high prices via Saudi Arabia or somesuch)...

So, 20 tankers were blown up?

Like what would you need to do that? (Could it have been accident? A spark then a chain reaction? or do you need to place a bit C4 at each tanker or something?)

This is interesting. Another supply disruption that may hide the reality of peak oil...

That was my early thought too. Too soon to be talking about terrorists so we should assume for now that it was an accident.

When Hemel Refinery got blockaded during the fuel protest, panic buying ensued.

Glad I filled the car up yesterday.
