A truly amazing lack of coverage of this ongoing environmental disaster. The rig has been leaking 400 barrels/day into pristine ocean for 10 weeks.

Now it's on fire as well

Quote:
The damaged West Atlas rig, situated 125 miles off the coast of West Australia, caught fire on Sunday during the latest attempt to plug the leak which covered an area of at least 5,800 square miles in the ocean.

Last week scientists surveying the effects of the oil spill said it would have a detrimental effect on the environment and the local marine life, and compared its long-term effects to those of the Exxon Valdez spill near Alaska in 1989.

And yet, incredibly low level of reporting. Oh well, it's out at sea, and who knows where Timor is anyway?

There's natural oil seeps off shore in California.

Obviously, this has been going on for billions of years without people drilling for it. A little oil is good for the environment. It keeps the insects and parasites in check.

Drill, Baby drill!!!

Nah, probably the mud logger's fault.

Actually it said it was unmanned so who knows? Valve failure?
There will more than likely be an inquiry.
