More oil slicks being discovered in Gulf of Mexico

More oil slicks being discovered in Gulf of Mexico thumbnail

As time goes by boat captians are finding additional oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico waters

Possibly these are the remains of the BP / Transocean oil spill , even worse these may be unreported oil spills from other gulf water oil facilities.

It is very common for oil company personnel to intentionally fail to report a oil spill. Especially if the oil spill occurs in the hours after darkness. With seas moving from 15 – 25 miles per hour once the oil enters the water it can be 50 – 75 miles away from the point of origin and very disapated , easily overlooked and possible undetected.

Oil spills come with increases inspections and fines starting at $ 100,000 for the oil company, this gives huge incentives to NOT REPORT the oil spills.

However failure to report a oil spill carries a 5 year prison sentence and a $ 250,000 fine or any combination of both for the individual and a fine starting at $ 1,000,000 or more for the oil company once they are caught an convicted.

With the vast area offshore still even with these stiff penalties oil spills occur and are not reported.

Hard to believe isn’t is ,

Yet for Thanksgiving of 2009 i witnessed such an event. In the offshore waters 100 miles south of Houma Louisiana i was onboard a offshore facility which experienced a oil spill after dark.

The facility personnel for 4 consecutive nights under the cover of darkness engaged in activities to eliminate all evidence of the oil spill while conducting no activities to recover and remove the oil from the gulf waters.

Of the 3,500 offshore facilities and 350 drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico on a daily basis it is hard to believe that this was the only incident of this kind over the past 30 years.

Flying over the Gulf of Mexico from the southern most part of Texas to the Alabama state line several oil spills can be seen at any one time. Yet there are no oil skimmers attempting to remove the oil from gulf waters. No Coast Guard vessels investigating the environmental pollution.

Even though some of these oil spills are natural in nature from oil seeps in the Gulf , some are unreported oil spills from offshore oil facilities.

Those people whom travel the Gulf of Mexico can get involved now an the government is making it worth your time to do so.

Individuals can report oil spills they witness to the Coast Guard , BOEM or EPA first hand. Your report will be confidential and your identity also. If your report confirms a oil spill and the facility which generated the oil spill the government will issue fines against the oil company and offer up a reward to the preson reporting the oil spill.

Rewards for reporting those oil spills which ,prove to be unreported carry a minimum $ 1,000,000 fine, which the government is mandated to award the person reporting the oil spill no less than 50 % of the fines

THATS $ 500,000 FOR MAKING A PHONE CALL !

Thats correct a ENVIRONMENTAL WHISTLEBLOWER REWARD of 50 % of the fines against the offshore polluter.

Individuals regardless of their reason for being offshore , wether it be personal or business can call in a oil spill and reap the rewards of bringing a criminal environmental polluter to justice.

You would think some out of work people would like to make some money by monitoring the offshore facilities.
