Europe is seeing some significant recovery now. Enough people might believe this a short term bottom to actually pull out a gain today.

Massive market manipulation. They are trying to lay a floor, but all they are doing is fleecing those desperate for a bottom.

They are desperately trying to keep the asset bubble inflated, but their efforts are being wasted in the face of so much downward momentum.
They don't seem to realize that asset values must reset much lower, because the common person is too poor to afford much these days, especially when faced with skyrocketing health care, commodity and energy costs. The prices are going to come down, if they like it or not.
The lack of trust among corporations and freezing of short-term lending is their own fault, caused by their own dishonest accounting practices. I don't know how that will be rectified because they oppose honest reform, thus continuing this crisis.
That is why I think the new trading range, when all is said and done here, is around 3750-5500 for the DJIA.

Not to worry. Like I keep telling people,
- if the stock market keeps dropping 5% per day, in 20 days there's not much of a stock market left
- if crude oil keeps dropping $5 per day, in 16 days crude oil becomes free

Yep, Bush just said it, "purchasing equity of financial institutions".
