The thing is US consumer needs to stop consuming so much but unfortunately that is 65% of our economy. The US consumer is like a crack addict that handles withdrawal symptoms by smoking more crack when what really needs to be done is to drop the habit.

They are preparing people for what's to come. It's getting bad to the point where they can't cover it over anymore.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but just for fun, I would like for people to give their Jan 1, 2009 outlook. What will be different on that day from today, Feb 14th, 2008 ? In other words, how will life be any different from now ?

Okay...forecasts. Same sh**, different day. The super delegates rally around Hillary, the war candidate, who is the only dem who can lose to John McCain. He takes it, and then ts(really)htf. High unemployment, plummeting dollar, etc... etc...
If Obama can pull it off, less bleak, just a grinding inflationary depression.

My Predictions,
On January 1, 2009
1. Hillary will be the president elect.
2. Inflation will be higher and the economy will be even worse.
3. The government will have quit reporting economic indicators and other hard data in order to hide the problems with the economy.
4. There will be a liberty movement springing out of the Ron Paul rEVOLlution, but it will be crushed, and the main stream media will not report it.
5. Hunger will be a problem in America.
6. Several more countries will have become dark.
7. Unemployment will be higher.
8. People will be talking about the "D" word.
9. The Self Sustainable and Permaculture movement will be larger as people start waking up to reality.
10. I'll be stocking up on lots of popcorn for the big show.

2. Inflation will be irrelevant and the economy will be booming.
3. The government will be bragging about the economic indicators and giving Bush all the credit.
4. There will be a rush to buy SUVs as the price of gasoline plummets.
5. Too much food will be a problem in America.
6. Several more oil producing countries will have come under the OPEC organization.
7. Unemployment will no longer be an issue.
8. People will be talking about the "D" word: "Dawn of a New Era."
9. The Self Sustainable and Permaculture movement will be the laughingstock of the country.
10. I'll be assuming the throne as Marie of Rumania
