They make it sound like '$2.5 Billion Loss = Peanuts'.

This is anecdotal, I know, but this never happened before.
We have a credit card with Citi for the Upromise program (1% of each purchase goes toward a college account for your kids). We pay it off every month, and like clockwork, for the past 7 years, they have posted that 1% into our account at the first of the month.
This month, however, I checked to make sure that the amount was posted on our Upromis account, and it just posted, 30 days late for the month of June's purchases. I geuss they are trying to hold on to cash...who knows how many of these types of programs they have, after all, and how much 1% adds up to for 1000s of cardholders?

For the love of god....just merge this with the layoff thread. How many frakin times are people going to post individual layoff threads?

Use the GD search function before you post another thread. It's pretty simple.

actually your response is pretty ironic Demolay. suppose there were a war and genocides thread and somebody came along with a post about another small holocaust of 20 million or so over the weekend and you said. " We already have a thread about that for chrissakes":)

50,000 layoffs within 6 months is indeed dramatic.

I'd have to agree that a 20% reduction for an international company is worthy of its own thread. My brother-in-law got laid off from Citi in a recent round of layoffs (1+ year ago) and is now working for PWC. Strangely, PWC seems to be mostly absent from the news. Are the Big 5 immune from the recent downturn?

Nope. Maybe not enough coffee yet though.

I don't mean to be an a-hole, but it just seems like the site has turned into duplicate thread land lately.

Well it seems that every morning the headlines become more dramatic and the numbers bigger. The trickle has become a stream, the stream a river and the river a flood. And everyone is trying to scramble up the walls to safety.

we need Morpheus to show us how deep this rabbit hole goes

Quote:
US bank Citigroup has announced plans for about 53,000 new job cuts, on top of a previously announced 22,000.

Citigroup said the 75,000 job cuts represented a reduction of about 20% of its staff, leaving it with 300,000 jobs worldwide "in the near term".

That leaves them with 300,000.
I wonder if that would still be 200,000 too many ...
