I really hate to see my guesses so off, a low of $20 and a close of $50 would have meant either we could easily cut back on our addiction or our pusher had way too much goodie laying around, looks like I was wrong.

It is not unheard of for me to forget what a number was in the four seconds it takes to look at the closing price and then scroll to the top of the screen to enter it as the closing price in my spreadsheet.....Middle age will do that to you.

Perhaps I will be more focused on the next update, or write it down next time.

No problem. I thought it might be a rounding error on the EIA's part. As you pointed out, that two cents will be a moot point next week since the closing price has presumably increased. I punched in $79.61 on the "what if" page of my workbook, and my rank finally changed! lol

We still could use a late tropical storm in the gom moving into southern Texas after disrupting some oil shipments.

But that's likely not to happen with the current El Nino effect. Those folks in Southern Texas are still suffering exceptional drought conditions.

btw, I'm middle aged too. 51. I blame it on the beer.

Obixman, you are the new leader! WC: Good job while it lasted. Perhaps a reversal down to the 67-ish range will give me a chance.....

This is the first lead change in ages, and I believe Maddog78 and Cog have has the advantage if prices continue to climb a bit.

By the way.....

Over the last 10 years, the period between Halloween and Christmas has been quite unpredictable:

In six of those years, there was a price decline, but in four an increase....
The average was a 3% price decline in that period, but the range has been from a 47% drop, which must have been last year, to a 20% increase....

So, it's still anybody's guess because the seasonality is zero for the upcoming time frame.

The EIA reported a closing high of $81.03 on 10/21/09. There's been a bit more shuffling in the standings.

pupp: what does your data show?

Strange how things change. Today $80 bl seems like a reasonably price or even cheap. Two years ago $80 bl was unprecedented.
I wonder what price will be seen as reasonably or even cheap two years from now, $150 bl or $200 bl maybe?

Oil is going to be going up and down, but mostly up until a lot of people can't buy it any more.

The price seems to like to hover around $80 nowadays.

Ahemmmmm. Thank you, Thank you....

What can I say?

The year didn;t happen when I though it would, but what I thought would happen pretty much did.

Still two months to go - could be anyone's race!

You are right, it did get into the low 80's for a day or two....

The next little herd is in the Maddog/SteinarN/Cog group..... Anything can still happen between now and the end of the year, as we well know....

There is a little herd
