You'll have to work that out yourself. :) I don't need those things, personally, so it's not a big concern of mine. I can see it might be for a lot of other people though. But I don't pretend to be suggesting solutions for everyone's problems, just alternatives for those who might be interested in these Utopian ideas. :)
So you're willing to admit that the idea of a "gift economy" doesn't work when dealing with capital intensive projects.
*wipes sweat from forehead*
WOW I'm glad to hear that.
For a moment there I thought you completely lost your sanity!

However I believe if you wish to at least enjoy a standard of living above that of cave man existence you need capital intensive infrastructure and of course heavy industry.
So therefore there will always be some type of capitalistic system in place.
Even during the Middle Ages there was capital intensive infrastructure such as windmills and water wheels.

You are offering solutions which would work in some selected communities immersed in healthy environment, but you cannot accept that with 6.7 billions of peoples on the Earth it is next to impossible to develop these on any meaningful scale.

That is my overall impression after conversations with you.

That's interesting, because I don't recall ever saying anything to the effect that humans are not overpopulated. I don't recall claiming these ideas would be implemented on any meaningful scale.

Hmm. :)

Oh I lost that some time ago. All my ideas are impractical and Utopian. Ask anybody! :)

I don't recall you saying that either, but don't confuse them with facts!

Links relating to the sharing or gift economy:

I read the intro and I'm totally confused.
It talks about things like feminism, gender, and nurturing.

What if I need a nuclear power plant or 500 miles of railroad tracks built how does that work?
Is somebody going to give that to me as a gift?

Actually the gift-economy is pretty much a product of evolution. You would be a single celled organism if your heart cells didn't trust your brain cells. That trust took over a billion years to establish.

Hmm. :)

But you was suggesting that permaculture could work with 6 billions of peoples or so.
Perhaps you have revisited your initial position.

Do you remember these Monte's "death threads" where he was belittling you, eg "Ludi cannot grasp..." etc?

Incidentally I do not accept his suggested solutions and my understanding of your position is that you would not like for these to be implemented too.

However I think that permaculture could become to be progressive proposition for humanity at large only after overshoot is rectified.

And anyway, what policy would you offer for transition period?

My position is that holding peoples to their contractual obligations which they wanted to enter and willingly accepted them is a good point to begin with.

For example debt related obligations...

Would you like to live in the world where contracts between consenting adults mean nothing?

Yes, I believe at least a year ago. I made quite a big screaming deal about conceding to him, in big all caps screaming posts. :)

I'm not in the policy-offering business or hobby.

People can do what they like. :)

In the spirit of impractical and utopian, I want to live like this:

Silly Rabbit. I'm not giving away MY money, I don't have any to give beyond what I need to survive.

I am giving away RICH people's money! If you have some surplus, I'll give yours away for you. You can thank me later. :-)

Knee-deep in horse-crap.

Why?

Is it acceptable to walk out of contract, if you decided that you no longer like it and after your counter party fulfilled its obligations?

That's where Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and T. Boone Pickens come in. They have the opportunity to give those infrastructure needs to their community by giving back their wealth accumulated at the expense of the community :-)

I understand you.

You would like to give away money which do not belong to you.

And you would wave your handgun to enforce it. :-D
