I don't know how you go from "gift economy" to "not honoring obligations."

Looks like a big leap to me, some kind of big assumptions being made on your part. You seem to have a lot of ideas about what I might be thinking or trying to say.

Despite the Robin Hood suggestion from Mos, I'll stick to the Pale Rider.

Count on more dramatic prose off my keyboard Byron. Nice to have a fan club :-)

I believe the 3 or 4 major bailouts in the U.S. and countless other bailouts in other countries has underlined this to be true. What really should have happened is people, companies, and the rich should have been made RESPONSIBLE for their ludicrous and predatory practices and all should have been made to fail to teach them and the economy a lesson. After the whole thing fell, we'd hold people to task for their stupid decisions with more fervor. Our big problem is we hold NO ONE responsible for their actions.

The impending depression is our own doing, myself too on some level. Hence the desire to PREP to correct my errors and to shield myself from the errors of my neighbors both locally and globally.

I'm not in the policy-offering business or hobby.People can do what they like. :)

Do you really wish to face consequences of that on your own skin?

What I "wish" is irrelevant. I have no control over other people.

I agree with that. I would also throw bankrupt bankers into debtor prison if I have powers to do so.

And I would hunt them down after bailout scam have finally collapsed together with currency involved.
Some current senior US/EU officials should also be hanged for a treason, which they have obviously committed.

In collapsing economy enforcement of contractual obligations is about the last anchor barring us from the Mad Max world.

okay I'm getting confused here. Is somebody going to to give me a nuclear power plant as a gift or do I have to pay for it? :?

Some peoples do not understand which laws can be sustained in long run.

Those suggesting that "American citizen might deserve non repayable debt facility" certainly cannot be sustained for any extended period.

1. Black marketeering may be one of essential survival skills in societal collapse environment.

So all your arguments here are about exercising keyboard prose?

I understand...

Don't you agree with that?
Do you understand that if I found myself in breech of one of my contractual obligations under shadow market environment, I could easily end up dead/beaten badly/imprisoned, depending of particular circumstances?

Peoples should stick to their word... Full belly society tends to forget about that... how nice to die by the book

I understand where you are coming from and reluctantly admit that I'd probably stoop to participate, but I'm not the one taking a moral stance on 'contractual obligations'.

Our governments have recently put us all into debt for years to come - they're not contracts signed by us.

You also previously boasted about earning ten times what your lecturers were earning. IMO this highlights the parasitic nature of the black market which could be seen as tantamount to theft.

I trust you also would willingly pay for the cells to house all these debtors in your prison, for the guards to keep them in the prison, for the food to feed all these debtors in your prison and for the fuel to heat the prison as well? If you are not willing to pay for all this, than what do you propose to do with all your debtors?
