I just hope I am not lumped together with the hard core survivalists. I like their blog, but I don't really consider myself in the same league. I am more of a green person, interested in community solutions.

Some teams prefer man to man defense others a zone. They are all playing the same game. "hard core" survivalists take m 2 m, you prefer zone. We have our reasons for choosing one over the other and those reasons are valid and the difference palitable.... but we are still playing the same game.

I work from home and I'm watching the news. A snip from the CNN special was just on. They had a bell-curve at the beginning, then the PO.com home page, some other info. Didn't catch all of it. Just an FYI!

I wonder how much of this attention is down to the vibrant community or some research intern typing peakoil.com into a browser and seeing what happens.

A strange event has transpired in my workplace, and among friends. I have been brought into discussions initiated by people who have seen the mainstream peak oil reports. It is a strange and awkward feeling, as I have known for several years now.
I will take a moment to echo a concern other posters have had. I worry about unreasonable reactions among the government and the population at large.

Geez Midnight-Gamer - I agree whole heartedly with your assessment, and I'm really impressed at how calmly you say it.

It's like night of the living dead and you turn to the rest of us barricaded in the house and in a slow, droll tone say, with a calm face, "it appears that the zombies things are about to overwhelm the house."

Once it aired on CNN it really was only a matter of time before it was picked up by others.

Can't put the cat back in the bag now. The only thing good about that is maybe it will make (eventually, after many mistakes) a large number of people change how they live for the better.

But the road from here to there is fraught with many perils.

Fer instance:
1) The sheeple get scared and scream at govt to "do something".
2) Govt does something, many somethings, all stupid.
3) Scapegoats are found and properly sacrificed.
4) Everything gets worse instead of better.
5) Only the little folks do anything constructive about the problem, so it has little overall effect.
6) Once the little folks have figured out some workable ideas, they are shunted out of the way so Big Money can exploit those ideas.
7) Individual efforts are regulated or made illegal to protect Big Money.

I second patience's thoughts. Make sure you are not bankrupted at the first hurdle and be wary of the snake oil man that rides into town. Then hope enough people have the sense to do likewise.
