Quote: HA!
Anybody stocking up and preparing for societal collapse would only be marginally better off if indeed TS-does-HTF. If things get that bad, then surely, starving bands of zombie people will find you, find your dwindling stash of supplies, and will raid your lil' parsnip garden. And even if a survivalist can hide really well, what happens as the years go by and shit runs out or breaks down? What happens when your solar electricity inverter craps out and you are in the middle of nowhere? What happens when you can't get good pesticide and some bug infestation is eating all your cabbage? There is a gazzilion things that can go wrong and there is probably no way to fully prepare. And even if there were away to build an impenetrable lifeboat, life will surely be miserable there. So what's the point? It it so someone can get old, have their health go to hell and have no doctor to relieve the pain and suffering?
Screw it. If the ship goes down, I'm going down with it. And, in the mean time, I don't have to live like a survivalist.
I just couldn't let this go. You logic goes something like this:
Yes, screw it. I'll continue smoking cigarettes and injecting heroin, because, you know, I'm going to die anyway. Research shows that all humans die so what good does it do to to deprive oneself the pleasure of nicotine and opiates? The chance of living a few more miserable years without those wonderful pleasures?
Brilliant!!!
Yes, please do your part, don't prepare; because to do so would be quite useless. Who in their right mind would want to live like a 'survivalist' anyway?
I'm sure there will be a spot in some FEMA 'relief center' with your name on it.
Talk about self-fulfilling prophecy. Party on dude!!

Welcome. It can be a little intense while you upload it all ("whoa, I just learned jujitsu").
Happy reading.

Front page of the newspaper of nearest/only "city" within 2.5 hours of this area. (30K population)
This paper usually caters more to local info. Not a lot of national/international news coverage. So this was a pretty big deal -- giving it coverage.

So that is what it took - $135 oil, Russia declaring peak and KSA saying they are dropping finds back in the water. Better late than never!
The funny thing is, the facts today are little different to what they were when Hubbert made his world projection in 1974 and reiterated his concern in 1979, supported by Yergin before he presumably decided to become another Yes Man in DC. Hubbert said 1995 peak. Twenty years of technological advancement bought us another ten years. Now we debate whether 2005 was the peak in conventional crude.
Some facts did change - once.
Well congratulations, here are your market signals. Do you like them?
Now alternative energy R&D can really get under way! I hope you had the presence of mind to avoid becoming the collateral damage of that incentive. There is plenty of information here and elsewhere should you decide your present living arrangements have no future at $135 oil and a grocery basket you are forced to charge to credit instead of cash. As ever, alongside daily analysis of insufficient response to circumstances.

That is it in a nutshell.
In fact you could have shortages even with increasing supply, if demand outruns it. It is no longer enough to challenge peak oil as a concept in isolation, now sceptics have to answer awkward questions about global population and economic trends too.

How is it they can mention all this and not say the word "peak oil". I'm still new here. Is this a dirty word? Does peak oil=doomer in the media's eyes?
The media lives in denial. I really have no idea when, if ever, the media will acknowledge Peak Oil. You have to remember that the media is part of the establishment and that the establishment has a vested interest in keeping things running as it is for as long as they can. To report Peak Oil would contradict their own interests, so they have an incentive not to report. It's like big media reporting on the Bush Administration. They aren't ever going to call out the Bush Admnistration on its lies and deceits because they have a vested interest in keeping good relations with the administration.

The prices for those resources will sky rocket long before global warming will make your winters more moderate. Better stock up lots of thermals!
how does that song go
Ther's no rain in california,
But boy, don't they warn ya,
When it pours, man it pours...
Cal is a bad place to be in about 3 years.coastal north ca or oregon is still warm
