>>> Bloomberg <<< Quote: Gas Glut May Grow as XTO, Devon Wells Prove Prolific By Jim Polson and Edward Klump
Aug. 6 (Bloomberg) -- The largest U.S. natural-gas producers may be doing too well at the wellhead for their own good, pumping so much of the heating and power-plant fuel that prices won’t soon recover from last year’s market collapse.
XTO Energy Inc. and Devon Energy Corp., two of the five largest producers of U.S. gas, yesterday reported record output and smaller declines in earnings than analysts estimated. Anadarko Petroleum Corp., London-based BP Plc and Chesapeake Energy Corp. previously reported second-quarter output gains that helped them beat estimates.
Even as they lament a gas glut, the companies have been reluctant to let revenue and profits fall further in the short term by being the first to curtail output. Second-quarter production at Fort Worth, Texas-based XTO jumped 32 percent, and Devon of Oklahoma City had a 12 percent gain.

I read that the wells were being drilled at a loss: And we only hear about the successful wells, the creme de la creme. It would be unusual to find a story at Rigzone that reads like this— Desoto Parish, Louisiana — March 13, 2010 Mainland Resources, Inc. announced today that their Bogus #2 well in the Haynesville showed weak flows in the first few weeks after production began … Spokesman John Q. Smith said “we probably won’t get 0.3 Bcf out of the damn thing… We’ll never get our money back.” He called the results “very disappointing.” … Smith concluded that “drilling this well was a complete waste of time and money.” LMAO http://www.energybulletin.net/node/49342 ![icon_cyclops [smilie=icon_cyclops.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_cyclops.gif)

Not true. I've seen several stories on rigzone about dry exploration wells.
Do you realise that virtually all n. gas wells are successful? Money is going into field development only. Do you know the difference between exploration and development? When you know the field is there, the well will not be dry.

Yeah, storage is getting full. We're not seeing the decline rates from producing wells that was expected. Makes that story a few years ago about the coming crash in n.g. production look pretty ridiculous now.

http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/ ... 41789.aspxA NEW ENERGY FRONTIER? Quote: In recent years, gas hydrates have been found in more accessible settings, such as sandy deposits off the coast of Alaska and in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Sand reservoirs of gas hydrates also have been identified off the shores of southeastern Japan and Canada's Northwest Territories. Gas hydrate reserves have also been found in offshore clay sediments near India and Korea.
Drilling tests have suggested that extracting the methane from the sandy deposits could become commercially feasible, Boswell said. One method calls for reducing the pressure in the well bore, liberating the methane gas from the water. Another method involves injecting carbon dioxide to displace the methane from cavities in the deposits. The second method has the added benefit of locking up CO2, which could address climate change.

^ I already did a whole thread on that. NG closed down another 14 cents today, finishing at $2.80. Soon it'll be free!

That's like, what, $15 oil? Let's say we use the usual 1:6 rule of thumb. If anyone has got the cash and a couple hundred million cubic feet of storage capacity to spare ...

Does anyone besides me think the natural gas price has gone a bit blinky in the past several days? But I'm sure Maddog is crossing his fingers it's real.
