Something the rest of you may find interesting: when everyone was making noise about getting newer and better equipment to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the governor of Michigan (Granholm) was approached (I believe) for the F-16 Hornets the Michigan National Guard had. There was some negotiation, and eventually they were traded for A-10 warthogs. I remember seeing a small article about it a few years ago.

A-10s are great for cleaning up ground forces, but not much for air-to-air vs. the supersonic F-16. Did other states enter similar arrangements? I'm not sure if the F-16s have actually left Michigan yet or not, but I have seen the A-10s doing manuvers for a year or so.
