If he does lurk here, he's probably laughing his ass off.

Well that article is scary and hopefull all at once. If a billionaire is scared about whats coming, those of us trying to scrape together 10-20k worth of supplies are going to take a hell of a beating. Anyone not even trying to prepair is done for. So That sets my doomerosity meter right maxed out. However he's not just trying to prepair to survive.
He's also prepairing to get even further ahead. I'm not sure if the average person can scrape together enough to try and make a move as well but at least their is hope. 500 million in cash must be nice. I'm really curious what he thinks will be worth spending it on.

Howard Hughes made a lot of money in his life, but he was still a nutjob.

I was so excited when I saw this article. I could hardly wait to share the link with you folks!
I should've known I'd be beaten to the punch--and couldn't be happier that I was! I think a lot more PTB know the same stuff this dude does. They are preparing. The rest of us? They are laughing all the way to the bank--or the mattress--or the private funds they've set up. Who among them cares about US?

The meek will inherit the earth. They are still finding hordes of silver in England where some Roman lord tried to stockpile his riches in a vain attempt to preserve himself and his family. Read Collapse. In the end of the Greenland colony the great farm at Gardar was attacked and all the cows were eaten. It may not prove to be a good strategy in the peak oil endgame to be so visible, unless the people around you are on your side. Feudal lord, ok, robber baron, no.

Indeed this is an accurate analogy!

Not much of a difference if you ask me. Such scum deserves to either relinquish power, be disposed of, or even be killed on sight if necessary so that the world may be rid of them, leeching off of everyone elses hard work. They're no different than those authoritarian communists they rail against.

New article on LATOC lurker Richard Rainwater: Time to bet on an oil crunch
Quote: Betting on increasing demand
Indeed, Rainwater is just as convinced as ever that oil prices are going higher in the long term. As he made clear in a Fortune story three years ago ("The Rainwater Prophecy") he believes that the world is facing a future shaped by scarce natural resources. His decision to sell out in May was based on a belief that oil prices had gone too far too fast, not that the bull market for oil - or for that matter, commodities of all kinds - has ended.
"I think we'll have a run on raw materials of all kinds because we've taught people all around the world how to play capitalism," he says, "and all those people want to live like Americans. But when you look at us being [4.5%] of the population and using 25% of the resource base, that can't go on. You can't extrapolate that out around the globe without there being price pressures on the upside. So there are price pressures in food. There are price pressures on raw materials of all kinds, including oil."
