Director:

Gus Van Sant

Writers:

John Krasinski (screenplay), Matt Damon (screenplay), and 1 more credit »

Stars:

Matt Damon, Frances McDormand and John Krasinski | See full cast and crew

This Focus Features film describes the storyline–“With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief.”

But, things get sticky when a schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) intervenes with the support from a grassroots campaign (John Krasinski)

Yes, that’s right–I said John Krasinski. Most of us know him as Jim Halpert from The Office. But, I just watched Krasinski star in another environmental film, Big Miracle, as a TV reporter who does a story on saving a family of whales in Alaska.

I see a pattern developing here…and I like it.

I’m really excited to seePromised Land. This isn’t a documentary like Josh Fox’s Gasland. This is a feature length film that will use cinematography and a truthful storyline to heighten our awareness of the effects of our actions on the environment.

Promised Land was meant to be Damon’s directing debut, but due to time issues, he had to step down. Yet, Damon still stars as the main character, Steve Butler. In the film, Butler’s job will have him questioning his personal and professional morals.

Check out the Promised Land trailer, which was just released.
