Did you hear BP's Lard Browne get fellated on NPR?
The only two conclusions one can draw:
1. If Lard Browne is to be taken at his word, then this so-called peak oil issue is so ludicrous as to not even warrant discussion.
Comments?

2. If peak oilists are correct, then Lard Browne did a crater-rim-walk around the volcano vent of peak oil in a performance worthy of Nadia Comaneche (sp?) during the Olympics many years ago.
Comments?

-Point: oil prices are "too high." In the future they will go down, soon to $40.00/ barrel.
-Point: the recent "high" prices are the result of high demand and hurricanes.
-Point: "Demand responds to price."
-Point: the reason BP is investing in "alternative" energy "sources" is that the people want them. (No difference between "energy" and "liquid fuels.")
-Point: people are switching to gas (didn't blink an eye, as far as I could see on the radio) because it's better for the environment.
-Point: the key to future oil security is "choices," "diversity," West Africa, Algeria, etc. etc.

Either we're crazy, or we need to post our doomerosity index up another notch, because this is complacency-mongering.

Complacency-mongering will become rampant. Nothing must disturb the status quo.

I can't. I heard it on an actual radio. Sorry.

I wouldn't expect anything else from those such as Lard(ass). They have to lie (that's a huge understatment) to cover themselves.

"The future of oil security is choice and diversity."

LOL

(Gasping)I'm sure it is Lard, I'm sure it is. We'd like a broad range of "diverse" countries to steal whatever oil we can get.

Well if peak oil isn't reached this year I feel we may have a good shot at "Peak Asshole" with old Lard.

I was actually suprised to hear the interviewer (Inskeep?) ask, rougly, "so what if the Saudis don't meet demand?" He seemed perilously close to a real question, but then recouched it in terms of Saudi government instability, not geology.

Exactly the responses I expected from Browne.

What day and what program. Generally they post these things up as streaming audio after they've aired. Help me narrow it down and I'll post a link to it if I can find it.

Oops. I see you've already found it. Nevermind.

Idiotic British notions of "royalty" aside this colonial thinks he skirted the issue nicely. But I seriously doubt if we're going to see $40 again. So more placating I think. I also heard it on the radio this morning on the way to work.

If we do see 40 again for a sustained period of time he will be right.

But if oil continues to rise and we see more production disruptions ( massive killer hurricanes) in the GOM and oil keeps hitting marks above 60 then he will be wrong. Thus spake Captain Obvious.

The biggest problem with PO timing is that every argument either for or against is built upon a thousand ifs and buts and whole lot of maybes.

Now that I've heard it, NPR actually needs to get an interviewer
not a doormat.

Why oh why didn't he ask pertinent questions?

"Yessir, three bags full, Lord Browne".
