Amazing!! So, peak oil happened in 2000 rather than 2005 or 2008? Gold hit $2000/ounce already and we didn't notice it? The country disintergrated after Rita? The economy ended last March and just "shut down"? Shouldn't someone tell the 300 million people in this country that it has happened already and its only inertia keeping the planes in the air and the cars running?

The trailer I watched was pretty dramatic. Anyone interested in Mike's NEWEST claims of collapse should do the following immediately:

1) Send him some money for Novembers rent, he is short( :P ) and has asked for financial help ( again ). Details are listed here on the Oct 21 blog
link

2) Review his other claims of collapse, many of which are chronicled right here at po.com link

I read his book on . . . something. Was it crossing the Rubicon.

It was horrible. It was a ginormous hodge podge of quotes and citations without an appreciation for simply telling a tale.

I read the same book. It was a difficult read, in part I think because of the level of obfuscation necessary to hide the fact that random interesting facts do not a conspiracy make. Of course, when you base your argument on the inherent honesty of this guy link

well, it does beg the question, don't they teach basic lessons of who is credible, and who is not, to patrol cops? Mike received citations for his excellence as a patrol officer...maybe he's just overreaching when he puts on his "citizen-journalist" hat?

Oh, there's no doubt 911 was an inside job - I just didn't like the book.

My impression is it stresses global industrial/energy/ecological collapse rather than Rubbert's confusing theories on US government complicity etc. It appears to be specifically a Peak Oil rather than a 911 movie.

When Ruppert makes his comprehensive (some would say paranoid) Oil money--CIA--drug money--911--necon connections, I get bored and distracted. Heretofore it has been much too much to hold in my mind at one time.

The people who made this movie are smart. It must have been difficult reigning Rubbert in.

Anybody notice that he uses a quote from "The Onion" during the trailer to promote his movie? It was near the end and said "You'll leave the theatre shaken".

It's the Onion A.V. Club, not "The Onion's" comedy writers.

Judge for yourself - their entire (serious) review is right here, along with several other movie reviews:

A SocioEconomic Event mirrors EVERY OIL Watershed:

12122000. The EROEI dropped as Plataeu reached.

911. Another inflection towards Asymptote.

031703 Nearing PO.

May 2005 Asymptote Reached.

June 2007 Decline Begins as Merrill pulls Worthless CDO's
from Bear.

2010 Mexico cuts US oil exports to ZERO

LOL :) I've had the same experience its a bit funny to realize that the real money is always made at the bottom after all the credit and leverage is gone.

This fundamental of economics is sobering and real. You only make money by investing past profits into future endeavors. Trying to leverage by borrowing from the future to make money now always eventually fails.

This is really the heart of what EROEI says by taking from future returns for today eventually you simply can't take any more and your left with immense leverage.
The instant the Fed cannot create more debt to keep the Hamsters pulling...
Quote:
One of the things I'm trying to tell people is we can't borrow from the future if we want to move to a renewable society we have to dramatically cut our current consumption and redirect this energy/money/people to building the future but we have to work within the constraints of what we have. This probably means elimination of all outstanding debt i.e a global jubilee. We simply can't support it. But it also means elimination of any future debt i.e not only are the current debts erased but your not allowed to take on new ones.

So sure you get your 500k McMansion but the problem is if you try to sell it the buyer has to pay cash. I suspect you would be lucky to recover your down payment.

Oh nonsense. Nobody has a clue what EROEI was in 2000 because the oilfields in question weren't even dead yet, and as Maddog has noted, you don't know the answer until the last barrel has been produced, and I'm pretty certain all the big fields producing then are still producing now. And you assume EROEI matters, when obviously it doesn't.

9/11 historical events have nothing to do with oil, we've been nearing PO for 20 years if Campbell is your reference, it isn't clear you know what an asymptote is let alone its relevance, confusing market issues in 2007 with anything related to oil is amusing, and predicting the future hasn't been a strong suite of peakers, so forgive me for waiting another 3 months to see how Mexican exports do.

Seriously mcgowanjm, Rupperts record is clear, and doesn't have any more connection to reality than your list.

Net-energy analysis is performed before Energy-Dumb projects are initiated otherwise one is left merely with a boondoggles---corn ethanol, CTL etc. A simple boundary-controlled recursive life-cycle analysis of energy input amortized over the profitable duration of an industrial process and depreciated in time and across outputs

EROEI IS As Easy As One!

Corn ethanol is in the tank of my car as I type this, planes are flying on GTL already, and Maddog's reference on the oil industry EROEI usefulness stands until you find a way to refute it, and to date, you haven't. The topic here is Pee is Mikes latest attempt to make November rent money without begging strangers for it...again. Text deleted.
