I like the part about how the oil is brought to the surface by the centrifugal forces of the earth's rotation...

Funny, I haven't noticed much other stuff running up hill from all the spinning.

EXCELLENT!

I plan to start an abiotic oil exploration company and sell OTC shares on ragingbull.com. Our exploration will be guided by the bible code and can not fail. This book will be great help for my stock sales.

Craig Smith is a gold bug. He would much prefer the US dollar to be based on gold, not oil. (For "black gold" read "false gold"). Given the combination of authors, this book would seem to be little more than propaganda.

Abiotic oil is one of those memes that in itself is nonsense, but it provides an insight into how people think, like a dipstick into the brain.

I just saw this guy on some cable channel (CNBC perhaps?). He was basically saying gas would be $4 a gallon soon and the solution is to remove environmental restrictions on drilling and refining. Similar to this article

Did it have the hint to bookshops and librarians to file it as fiction?

i doubt we will see the end of oil in the next few years, and i highly doubt our earth is an oil machine. The answer, i presume, lies somewhere in the middle. From the science and politics i have read about peak out, it is pretty obvious that the earth holds alot more oil than people are letting on to believe; in places like russia, and under oceans huge reserves have been found. but i think a sadistic game is being played be the elite, oil drenched "one world governement" psychos that have a strangle hold on the majority of people in "power", that are really slaves to whatever the oilmen decide to do.

It goes deeper than oil, but the price gouging that goes on unchecked spurred by an artificial shortage that the oilmen have created is making a few selct people much much richer. No new oil refineries have been built since the early sixties, but we are constantly being hounded by the "fact" that it will run out soon. They have the energy of the world in their hand, and they are constantly dangling everyone on edge of collapse.

it takes alot more than reading an article and making fun of a persons views or his political party to truely understand any subject. The science IS faulty and any geologist would tell you their is much more oil, and that oil is not seeping up from the center of the earth. The ones that have said so will be overtook in time, because you can't force real scientific fact out of the picture forever.

(for a version of the following complete with links to sources,

Forget Everything You Think You Know About Oil, an article in Worldnet Daily discusses a book by Jerome Cosri and Craig R. Smith where they state that oil is not a fossil fuel, oil reserves are actually growing, global warming is a hoax, alternative energy is un-economical, and other such wonderfully ignorant statements... Well, I'm not going to debunk these statements one by one (though it would be quite easy, starting with abiotic oil... and if you look back a few weeks in my blog, you will find the method that the USGS uses for reporting "proven" reserves--by averaging what is 95 percent likely to exist with what is 5 percent likely to exist...), instead I'm going to focus on who Jerom Corsi and Craig R. Smith are, who they have ties to, and what their motivation in propegating this bullshit information could be.

Jerome Corsi is, in short, a hyper-conservative with a history of connections to the Republican Party and a history of inflammatory statements against the left. He has a PhD in Political Science--yet he feels qualified to debunk the world's top geologists and thinks that those of us who know how to ask our own questions won't realize that his motivations for publishing a book protecting the culture of consumption and big-oil are completely political and have nothing to do with actual science. Jermoe Corsi was at the forefront of the movement to demozine Senator Kerry's war record in the "Swift Boat" BS where most of his primary charges were proven false. At best, he is a biased source when it comes to politics (as all he does is bash the left) and even less credible when it comes to oil...

Craig R Smith is, of course, also a conservative, and an economist by trade. His history as an author focuses on helping well-to-do people invest their money in ways that will make them more well-to-do and make those who are already more well-to-do even moreso. Not to mention True Wealth: in his words "The goal of True Wealth is to help you understand money, stewardship, and giving from a Biblical perspective." He touts Reaganomics as genius, yet of course admits that the national debt tripled under Reagan's watch. So... he's a conservative economist and it should be apparent that his recent foray into the "debunking peak oil" genre is a thinly veiled attempt at maintaining his base of hig-wealth investors who support his multitude of web sites and investment advice publications and schemes. He makes rediculous statements like this: "Each 1 cent rise in gas prices sucks $14 billion a year from consumer spending." Not only is that claim unsubstantiated, but if we break down the math, we see that it's completely rediculous. For a one cent increase in gas prices to equate to $14 billion, people would need to be using 1.4 TRILLION gallons of gasoline each year. While Americans do consume an obscene 135 Billion Gallons of gasoline per year, it shows that Smith's math is off by a factor of 10!!

Still want to trust economists with political motivations rather than scientists?

I think that these authors are very much a stalking horse for the status quo establishment. Their job is to muddy the issue and associate in the minds of the public peak oil with abiotic oil. Why are they attacking peak oil and Matthew Simmons instead of the scientific establishment? The biological origin of oil has become a well established theory in geology. I don't think they are even trying to win the argument or convince anybody, simply making enough noise to confuse the public will help the status quo.

It's like an opponent hiring a heckler to dog a politician. It doesn't matter that the heckler is a moronic lout. His job is simply to disrupt the ability of the politician to get out his message.
