So we have 11 states that will provide Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants? What the heck? Folks, it's time to make the tough choices like this. There are no easy answers but we cannot continue in this fashion.
Warning: Fascism
So you support giving your tax dollars (or borrowing and growing the debt) to pay for care for every illegal alien in the US? (keep in mind their kids who are born here are already citizens and receive Medicaid)

Medicaid is in deep trouble. It will be bankrupt very soon, which means a tax increase. States have seen their Medicaid rolls grow during the recession and are having great difficulty paying for the increase. (cost shared state and Fed)

I don't take joy in folks getting sick without insurance but it happens every day all over the country. We can't even provide for people who are here legally, so now we should cover illegals too?

The story at Grady shows how we have been going out of our way already, but we have hit the wall. Money is short and the choices are difficult but something has to give.

lol ranger, I agree with you not being a cult member myself. I do think that there are a lot of Christians that would love to keep all they can and give as little as possible though. Even as a non-christian, I'm willing to do the right thing. For the record, on this subject, and before anyone says otherwise, I'm definately not for illegal immigration. I don't however think we should take it out on the poor Mexicans that work hard and provide for thier families on whatever wage American companies feel they can get away with paying them. I'm antidiscriminationist thats all. Being a half-white/half-asian I'm often confused with being Mexican, and I can tell you that the more people bring this stuff up the more I'm treated as a second class citizen. The problem needs to be resolved and the solution is simple. Go after the companies that hire illegal immigrants. If there is no work here why would they stick around when they speak little to no english and thier families are at home in Mexico? It needs to be done before heathcare reform IMHO.

Some people are making San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Kelt Cooper the villain for enforcing state law that requires students who attend his schools to live in the district.

But he is right in telling parents of children who are crossing the U.S.-Mexican border each morning that they need to prove residency in the district if they want to continue going to class in Del Rio.

This is not about immigration status.

School officials aren’t allowed to inquire about a student’s immigration status; if they reside in the district they can meet the state’s eligibility for enrollment in school.

The Del Rio News-Herald calls the fact that hundreds of children cross the border each day to attend classes the worst-kept secret in Del Rio.

The situation is not unique to Del Rio; it happens up and down the border.

So simple, yet so unpalatable to the government I guess. We saw a few big raids on the meat packing industry, but the agents took it out on the workers. "Big Meat" ( ) probably just got a slap on the wrist.

Same here with the chicken plants. My town has numerous chicken processing plants and they employ large numbers of Mexican workers. One plant was recently fined over $300,000 by OSHA for repeated and willfull safety violations. Why should they keep a safe workplace when the workers can't complain? I have no idea who used to work in these plants before the Mexicans came. (there is NO worker base here to support all of the plants) I know there used to be large #'s of Vietnamese but they left for the gulf coast area (locals told us all about it).

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Sounds great, but practical issues do get in the way. (we broke!)

If God would provide, it sure would be nice.
