The draft blows harder.
Soldiers getting killed every day in Iraq.
Army missing recruitment targets.
Free college and nice cash incentive failing to produce high numbers of fresh faces.
Bush government sabre rattling other countries.
Veterans being called up to do another tour of duty.
Can anyone give me a scenario where the government WON'T reinstitute the draft?

Sure; we admit defeat and don't embark on any more adventures.

Army Recruits Video Gamers
Quote: It's a video game created by the U.S. Army to win over the hearts and minds of American teenagers
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/ ... 9489.shtml
Looks like the US Army is trying to pursuade teenagers that war is fun (like a video game), and to convince them join up with the US Army. Guess the US Army really is desperate for new recruits after all... with the oil wars coming soon. If the video game doesn't work, a draft will have to be reinstated sooner or later.
The Army video game kind of reminds me of the movie 'The Last Starfighter' where Centauri finds Alex Rogan because Alex is very good at the Starfighter video game. But it's not just a game, but a test, too. I wonder if the US Army takes notes of player's high scores that play online. Hmmm. I do know that players must register with the US Army website to play the game online. And the Army website keeps track of player's game scores. Doh!
Maybe they should add depleted uranium and car bombs to the game, too.

Hasn't this game been out for a while? I recall my brother, a video game junkie, saying that most people played it just for fun, having no intention of joining the military. So with recruitment going down, it appears that the game isn't working, probably because it's easy for most people to notice that real war doesn't have quickload or respawn.

It has been out for a while, and it was designed as a recruiting tool. Of course this happened before the Iraq war started up. As I recall, though, the bad guys look Middle-Eastern, with Soviet-style equipment.
It has a sizeable following both due to it's price (free), and due to the fairly realistic modelling done in the game. No running around like a killing machine in this one.

If they do re-institute the draft, you think the hi-scoring people will get called up first?

Where's the link? post the link!
I want to play this
Gung Ho Gung ho! I'm getting hyped already.
Do you think that my being a short-sighted couch potato, authority-hating Brit quasi-Commie, will count against me enrolling in the NeoCon's Foreign Legion once I've played the game?
What's the old 60's song where the guy goes to be drafted for Nam, and they won't take him 'cos he shouts "I wanna Kill Kill Kill"? Those were more gentlemanly times, they'd have him in flash now...
I can hear Lee Ermey abusing me, faintly on the breeze.....

Nope, they're so despirate for bodies they'll grab you up and stick you in Iraq with STOP-LOSS to keep you there just like that.

nothing new here.
this rumor has been around for a long while.
at most it might be a tool to draw people of drafting age to events where they would be cornered by enlisters.
