People can talk about Bush being the right hand of God all they want, but all bets are off when it comes to a draft. People will sing the praises and clap the hallelujas, but when they are called to act by joining the military, or having friends and family join the military, their tune changes real quick.

Cheney to Bush: Now, George, listen here. Next week a group of insurgents coming from Iran will be caught bringing sarin gas into Iraq. You'll have to act surprised, but this time, don't just sit there looking stupid when you're told about it.
Bush to Cheney: Got it. The draft can be up by June and I've already got the speeh lined up. Goes like this, "My fellow Americans, it pains me to have been just told......."

If oil really hits $4 a gallon next spring it will put this whole debate in a totally different light. Would the US still ship people overseas if its that expensive?

Aparently they're getting creative:
http://tinyurl.com/7gok5
Quote: WASHINGTON — The Army, faced with a severe and growing shortage of recruits, began offering 15-month active-duty enlistments nationwide Thursday, the shortest tours ever.
The typical enlistment lasts three or four years; the previous shortest enlistment was two years.
Maj. Gen. Michael Rochelle, the head of the Army Recruiting Command, said 2006 could be even worse than this year, a continuation of "the toughest recruiting climate ever faced by the all-volunteer Army."

Like oil production, many things follow a life cycle similar to a bell curve.
In the beginning, interest and support can rise, it peaks and then declines.
Enthusiasm and support among young war buffs is clearly beyond peak, so something will have to give rather soon.
The "patriotic pool" to fund the activities in Iraq with people is largely
drained.

Isn't the Army still under a stop loss? If so, these people signing up for 15 month stints will actually be signing up for infinite service. In other words, the 15 month promise is meaningless.

It's been a few months, here's an updated chart. I haven't heard much news from the area recently apart from the rate of attacks on US forces is holding pretty steady at around 50-60 a day. Is there any improvement yet in terms of water, power, oil production, health services etc?

Would you conclude from these charts that the resistance is getting better since the number of casualties they are creating is getting so much higher?

Kingcoal wrote: As predicted by just about everyone, the war is easier than the peace. A lot of the troops in Iraq come from poor backgrounds. The Military offers them great opportunities to improve themselves and develop carriers. There is a price if war breaks out however. During a war like this, they pay dearly. Most Americans don't seem to care about the dead or wounded as long as it isn't someone in their own family. Republicans are very willing to give up someone else's life in the name of whatever.
You mean like when Clinton went to Bosnia?
Riiight, its all Republicans isnt it.....
